Toyota Prius will be made in the U.S.A.

Digital Trends -- It may have a Japanese badge, but the world’s most popular hybrid might soon be made in the good ole’ U.S. of A. Toyota is planning on making Priuses, specifically ones it wants to sell here, at an American plant. The company hopes this move will trim costs and increase availability of the hybrid hatchback.

Koei Saga, Toyota’s senior managing officer in charge of drivetrain R&D, told Automotive News that Toyota is looking to start Prius production in the U.S. beginning in 2015. This will coincide with the launch of a new, fourth-generation model.

Building the Prius in the U.S. has a couple of advantages for Toyota. First, it will negate the effect of the strong yen; the unfavorable exchange rate makes cars that are built in Japan and sold in America less profitable.

nomad228: "still a toy car and a coffin on wheels no matter how many air bags they put in them"

That's easily one of the most ignorant comments I've ever read on this website. Sounds like a raging case of "sour grapitis".

The Prius is one of the safest cars on the road. Look up the ratings yourself. I've owned a Prius since July 2005. Almost 7 years later, it has had ZERO issues and is going strong with almost 114K on the clock, delivering about 52 mpg regularly. All in all, it has proved to be an excellent vehicle.

Make the Toyota Prius in the US, trim costs and increase availability of the vehicle.
But, Inbreds and EV's are too high priced for me. With the high price of a new EV or Inbred, I will drive my current vehicle into the ground before buying anything new, used, EV, Inbred, diesel, hydrogen, alternative fuel, CNG, concept or anything else.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

And Bozama will apologize to China and take the credit. Yesterday's news but we will hear about this again when the campaign cranks up.

While I'm glad this will provide some American jobs, there's something terribly wrong with this picture. Our parents or grandparents fought in WWII, beat Japan, then sent W. Edwards Deming over to help them 'reconstruct' and now they've WON the war. They've killed off American-owned Detroit automakers and now they are the boss of our workers (and using Japanese-owned American steel, too). It's sad, but in part we have the greed of the unions to blame.
