Seven renewable energy projects expedited

Renewablesbiz -- Seven wind and solar energy projects totaling 5,000 MW in the West on public lands will be expedited for approval through the federal permitting process, the Obama administration announced.

The administration has dubbed it the “We Can’t Wait” initiative, which names projects in Arizona, California, Nevada, and Wyoming. Together, these projects would produce nearly enough power to serve approximately 1.5 million homes.

A Presidential Executive Order issued in March directed the Office of Management and Budget to oversee a government-wide effort to make the permitting and review process for infrastructure projects more efficient and effective.

“As part of President Obama’s all-of-the-above strategy to expand domestic energy production and strengthen the economy, we are working to advance

Transmit all the subsidized electric power from the Colorado River dams to the East instead of to California and Nevada.

Reality check:
Wind and solar energy production represent a very small portion of our national energy use.

Solar is actually a very tiny fraction. Currently it is about .032% of the total national energy production.

Over the past few years, a lot of investment has been made in wind farms. Currently the total annual energy output is about 95 Billion kW-hrs/year. How does this compare to current energy production from coal?

Currently the US coal industry produces about 2.88 Trillion kW-Hrs per year. By comparison, the wind industry output equals about 95 Billion kW-Hrs per year.
If we build 10 times more wind energy farms then what is in use today, we could reduce the coal production by less than 3%. (This assumes our energy consumption remains the same.)

Just food for thought...

Obama's "We Can't Wait" is translated into "I will sidestep Congress and Constitution every chance I can get."

The separation of powers means nothing to this dictator. Funny how Dems accused Bush of being a dictator. More projection from the pathetic Donkeys.

my electric bill is up by 1/3rd, I can only afford to purchase $35/mo of gasoline. Home gas bill is 80% gas company charges and 20% actual gas. SOMETHING HAS GOT TO BE DONE!

I would think expedition of approval for a single project at a time is more responsible, after the 'performance' of previous sugar babies, like Solyndra, for example.
My two (2) cents worth, lol.
