So only 1% of the chemicals used are supposed to be hazardous. . . kind of like cigarette smoking doesn't really cause cancer . . . right

I gotta ask, and I don't expect you to have the cajones to reply, how does your screed have anything to do with OK fracking? This inquiring mind would really like to know!

Fracking needs further study to quantify the impact on ground water and seismic activity

If this practice of fracking continues there will be multiple new "Love Canals" all over the US. We will have no choice but to pay a premium for some company's bottled water. I'm going to make a new smart phone application called "WaterBuddy".

At this point, people people need to make up their own minds. It seems the experts have conflicting opinions on hydraulic fracturing.

Get some research done on the long term effects of fracking, instead of changing the story every other day!!! Get your act together, scientists!!!

@Dodge_Me -- It's not the pressure, but the liquid and the friction-reducer -- it could act like a big can of WD-40. The plates are under pressure and are moving in different directions.
As a tree-hugger (you're welcome), I really do wish we could replace gasoline with natural gas in most of our cars, as long as the NG is extracted safely.

Is fracking bad or are the tree huggers choosing now to make a big deal out of it?

Still don't see how man can create enough pressure to move a whole tectonic plate, we're talking about more land mass than any man made machine could possibly move. Like lifting a 100 lb weight with a toothpick

The real problem with contaminating ground water is not during the fracking itself but during the disposal of the waste water, which is injected into wells, etc.

I hope someone with the right knowledge will be able to come to a safe conclusion and for the fracking companies to do the right thing and if not legislate them to do the right thing.

Fracking is done several thousand feet below water tables. These areas of concern are looked at closely by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission which has a lot of experience in this. There is no case of any cross contamination except in the early years when pressurizing with salt water or other waste waters was allow in some very shallow oil zones. Of course, if you pump that in your drinking water you get it right back. It's not rocket science.

. . "Hydraulic fracturing has been used commercially since 1949, and there have been no known cases of drinking water contamination. In Oklahoma, the practice is already regulated by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, the state agency that oversees the oil and natural gas industry. Similar agencies oversee hydraulic fracturing in other energy-producing states, and these state entities can respond more quickly than any federal agency to issues that require immediate regulatory attention." "The best scenario is the same scenario the EPA found in 2004, when the federal agency found no evidence fracking threatens drinking water. Just one week ago, Steve Heare, director of EPA’s Drinking Water Protection Division, said he hadn’t seen any documented cases that hydraulic fracturing contaminated water supplies. Hydraulic fracturing is a safe, well-regulated practice that is the key to increased natural gas production in America and a healthy energy economy in Oklahoma."

Seventy five years ago the Anthracite coal industry told us that the GOLD water coming into our streams was ok for swimming and drinking (once you go past the smell). o one believed them but it ruined many great fishing streams, killed lots of wild life and cost a fortune to clean up, So, I look at the Fracking industry with a jaundiced eye,

. . OK do it with out water..."GASFRAC Energy Services Inc’s. proprietary LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) Fracturing Process utilizes gelled LPG in place of conventional fracturing fluids. The unique properties of the LPG fracturing process result in significant savings on material expenses and fracture clean up, as well as increased well productivity." . The LPG used in the process is highly soluble in formation hydrocarbons. As a result, the LPG process results in less damage to formations than conventional hydraulic fracturing. And unlike conventional treatments where as much as 50% of the carrier remains in the reservoir and hinders well performance, virtually 100% of the LPG can be recovered. . GASFRAC Energy Services Inc’s .

They already reported on this yesterday. Fracking has no impact and is not causing earthquakes. Put it to bed.

BIG OIL & GAS love us
Looking at the big picture? Water is essential to life.
"Potable" water? Means water safe for consumption & free of disease causing contaminates.
The fracking Industry shills that are telling folks not to worry? They'll be long gone.
If fracking causes no problems?
Why is the Industry spending BILLION$ to suppress the truth, confuse $ deceive?
Much like BIG TOBACCO. Why would a multi-billion dollar corporation lie?
What is that phrase? Pick your poison.
A pound of prevention is worth BILLION$ in cure.
BIG OIL & GAS love us

At least it is good to know that fracturing has been done for some time. It may take away this anxiety fracturing has been getting.

You might rethink your comments about News9. FYI, Channel 9 is a CONSERVATIVE station from a conservative state that makes a great deal of money from Big Oil & Gas.
Further, the report is well balanced, giving both pro's and cons. Because you don't like a report, don't paint it with the Greenie brush! Channel 9 is around the bend and over the cliff from Greenies. Just be honest and say:
"I am not going to be confused by any information or facts." This statement is at least more honest than your comments, and we will at least know you have limited reading skills.
Peace Dude!

With all the demand for natural gas why can't we have stations that sell it for vehicles? We only have one car manufacturer the Honda Civic that runs on CNG and dealers may sell the gas but they are many miles apart.
