Another good one Teafortwo.....
Follow-up on the unplugged and abandoned wells is extremely expensive; each must be inspected individually. If NY is smart they will require the Oil/Gas industry to put aside a percentage of their profits so the State can afford the plugging and inspections!

NY records show history of oil, gas well problems and what else will show up later that they do not know about now? Protect the groundwater, wetlands, air quality and public safety from unplugged abandoned wells, industrial activity and fracking. Encourage the public to report possible problems and have the state inspectors investigate legitimate claims. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

I10Express...I wouldn't be bragging about the Texas Railroad Commissions actions in the Oil patch. Texas is owned by Big Oil.

Fracking is the wrong method and a destructive method of extracting oil and gas from the earth. When are people going to open their eyes to reality.

I'm not surprised - heard such stories before. Seen sites where massive pollution and/or contamination problems have just been "buried" - literally. Now, years later major bucks have to be paid for clean-up. And for everyone that has "surfaced", how many more sites out there are slowly leaking toxins into waterways, etc.????

Another one of the many and gigantic costs of deregulation.
I think Ronald Reagan just wanted to loosen the reins a little - not throw them away. Reagan loosened. George Bush, Bill Clinton, and George Bush threw them away. It was nuts.
Remember that banking melt down we are still paying for? The banking regulators still had plenty of regulations to enforce, but since we cut their strength, they decided not to enforce anything. Once the crooks figured this out, the meltdown was inevitable.
How did the crooks figure it out? Well one crook, he was high up in Arkansas government, he bullied the regulators there to look the wrong way and got away with ROBBERY!!! Then it got leaked to the press when he ran for president, letting the crooks know.
So it wasn't deregulation. It wasn't a lack of manpower. It was a complete lack of ethics by people who refused to do their jobs.

And somewhere there's a law that says you can't plant flowers on Sunday and that law will get enforced.

Typical of any place, any time. There is no regulation except for Joe Average. He gets regulated to debt.

What do you expect when there is a shortage of trained inspectors in an industry committed to getting as much profit with the least amount of cost.

It will be good for New York and good for America. Why do you think Middle East Countries are spending money to defeat fracking? The proposed regulations will get many of the improper abandoned well properly plugged and produce an energy source for America or one more step to energy independence.

The depth and breath of incompetence exercised in regulatory oversight of industry and the mitigation of environmental impact is astounding. When in retrospect we look at the impact of our collective stupidity in relying on local, state and federal agencies to protect us from industry and ourselves I have to wonder how the postmortem of civilization and the environment will read?
