Gas prices decline in time for holiday

TBN Weekly -- Back in January and February, analysts were predicting that gas prices would be $4 a gallon by Memorial Day. They were wrong.

As of May 20, the U.S. average price for a gallon of regular unleaded was $3.69, which is 20 cents lower than the same time last year. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, this is the first time since June 2011 that gas prices have decreased for six or more consecutive weeks.

Floridians are paying an average of $3.55 – 30 cents less than the same date last year. Local prices are down to an average of $3.47, a savings of 34 cents a gallon from 2011.

Still, Americans are likely to stay closer to home this Memorial Day holiday. AAA is projecting only a 1.2 percent increase in people traveling more than 50 miles from home over last year.

Kar, indeed. Bless our soldiers who have given their lives. I will not say more than that as there are things in history that just can't be changed...

Nope -- on west coast prices this time -- they're artificially high. Not cost of being here. We're at $4.24 in Oregon, along with California -- greed.

They do it because they can. And diesel below regular.

And bless our soldiers, who have sacrificed their lives for us.

Declined, but not at the predicted 3.25 (as per another article posted). Still at 3.40/gal here.

well, around here, prices have dropped. Average now 3.45, a month ago, 3.85. However, diesel is holding stubbornly at 4.00+ and many stations subsidize the lower gasoline prices w/ high diesel.

On Thursday all of the stations will raise their prices to take advantage of the holiday weekend travelers. Supply and demand for a product on a busy holiday weekend.

What do you mean that the Analysts were wrong, I guess Calif. is a different Country because gas keeps going up. The lowest gas price in
my town is $4.23 a gallon. And it's not going down.

I'm glad to see the prices are declining, but the problem is they're not declining fast enough. They're still much higher than they need to be. Let's just hope they KEEP declining AFTER Memorial Day.

yeah, but the yearlong higher prices already tapped out any expendable funds to be used to travel, eat out & entertain. get real, a drop in gas prices is not going to fix all our economic problems. we americans are so short sighted.
