Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. ------------------------------------ Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Romney is keeping the same fuel economy rules. Can't the Republicans sync up with their nominee?

Current estimates are that meeting these unrealistic CAFE goals will cost the consumers an average of $3500.00. Still like that "Hope" and "Change" mantra? Hell, the democrats will probably dig deep into the pockets of Americans who actually work in order to subsidize costs to the "poor".

RAE344 said: "I believe the fuel economy rules are a direct attack on the poor who can not afford to pay for this newer technology."
I don't believe they're a direct attack but rather an unintended consequence of liberal stupidity.
Take for instance Obozo's "Cash for Clunkers" program. Obozo's intent was to get older vehicles off the road that weren't as fuel efficient as today's vehicles nor could pass the stricter emissions tests. I'm all for fuel efficiency and cleaner air, but not very fond of Obozo's sledgehammer approaches to problems. Perfectly good vehicles were turned into waste products and used car prices soared as a result. Who got the raw end of the deal? Poorer people who couldn't afford the newer vehicles, even with the Obozo incentive attached.
These ridiculous fuel efficiency standards will also have unintended consequences in the future. Government needs to keep their hands off the free market. Idiots like Obozo have proven they know nothing about everything they want to impose their controls on.

They need to be increased to put more pressure on the manufacturers to build even more efficient vehicles.

Yes, global warming is a hoax – the hottest summer on record and the drought are just lame stream media fictions, supported by the liberal lefty enviro-wackos. Evolution is another myth - proven because so many beloved Tea Party members resemble Neanderthals in their thinking and views. Science really is a load of BS. Get rid of the EPA, the Department of Education and I forget the other one. Eliminate Medicare and Social Security so we can raise the defense budget and spend more tax dollars on Republican Congressional junkets to the Sea of Galilee for aquatic investigations. Clothing is optional.
Obummer is a Marxist, Socialist Muslim with a Kenyan birth certificate. He cut the work rule from welfare, but has not produced any jobs. He claims “you did not build that” and that the government knows what is best for you. He has spent trillions of your tax dollars on failed companies and giving money to his cronies. To top that, he doesn’t even have a Swiss bank account or funds in the Cayman Islands. He has run up the national debt to record levels. Despite what the liberal lame stream media claims, Bush did not add much to the debt because those two wars were “off budget.” Also Bush was responsible for getting Osama Bin Laden by luring him to his Crawford ranch for some barbeque. Bin Laden then went on a hunting trip with Cheney and ...you know the rest! The version of this story propagated by the liberal media is a hoax, just like the moon landing in 1969.
Another dumbocrat lie: Obummer did not revive the auto industry; Romney did by recommending we let GM go bankrupt. The hurricane brewing in the Caribbean is his fault and shows Nobama’s lack of leadership because he could control the global oil market, but wants high gas prices to insure his re-election. Repeal Frank-Dodd so that Wall Street can make decisions free from ridiculous government regulations and make the sound investments as they have in the past. In fact, repeal all regulations on everything. We need small government, except when it comes to controlling women’s bodies and what happens after a “legitimate” rape. By the way, the “war on women” is just another liberal leftie lie.
Yes, ignorance is bliss. As Joseph Campbell once said “Follow your bliss.” Watch FoxPAC and donate to the Republican twits, the party that celebrates ignorance!<<

But you forgot about further the elimination of the middle class while making it so the 1% can get ever bigger tax cuts until we are all paying them subsidies.

Fuel economy rules should be reviewed on a regular basis by a non partisan panel which includes non politicians and not from Washington.

Energy companies don't like higher fuel efficiency. Great to have a vehicle that gets over 40 mpg vs my previous 22 mpg vehicle.

Leave them alone. We are better off with higher standards. The engineers will figure it out of they have not already!!!

Political BS. How 'bout the engineers, scientists and R&D people figure this out rather than a bunch of politicians that only know how to talk badly about their competition.

This is retarded - adverse impact on consumers and the economy? Do they think $30/bbl oil is coming back, short of another US-led global economic collapse (which, I suppose, it could if the GOP get back in the White House and Senate and implement more of the same sort of policies that led to the 2008 meltdown). What about the adverse impact on the US economy that decades of dependence on huge volumes of imported crude has had? The trillions of dollars the US exports every year in return for oil?
The US won't do what every other oil-dependent developed economy does - tax oil-products heavily, to encourage lower consumption, and keep more of the money that is spent on fuel and so on in the US economy, instead of it being exported elsewhere. And now they would like to hobble CAFE standards, the admittedly bass-ackwards means the US has concocted to avoid the more effective high fuel tax strategy. This gives the illusion of looking out for consumers, but really just panders to the notion that "small government" is always good, and markets always solve problems. Unfortunately, recent and distant history both tell us otherwise - recently, the Wall Street-created economic meltdown that we are still struggling through, and long term, in that markets generally fail to plan for long-term needs - be it infrastructure, or, as here, the need for America, and individual Americans to reduce their dependence on crude that will likely be both more expensive, more scarce, and less secure in the future.

Quote of the day, "Kelly said "the new CAFE standards will limit choice, compromise safety, and increase costs for millions of Americans who are already struggling to get by in the Obama economy. The American consumer was not given fair representation at the CAFE negotiation table, and they have since been put on the menu."
We will all be driving clown cars soon, be paying high insurance premiums for the lack of armor that todays traditional vehicles provide and paying more for the purchase of our autos....and why I ask? Because the Obama administration is bribing the auto industry to cover up or make up for the overwhelming lack of BTU's that have resulted from federal ETHANOL MANDATES.
