Franklin Embassy Suites unveils Nissan Leaf limo

Tennessean -- (With Video) A smooth, quiet ride in a limousine has never been so electric.

The country’s first and only all-electric limousine, a modified Nissan Leaf, took to the road Monday, shuttling passengers to destinations within a few miles of the Embassy Suites hotel, which owns the one-of-a-kind vehicle.

Beyond that radius, though, hoteliers, tourism executives, local government and Nissan are hoping the visibility of this single vehicle can raise the profile of everyone involved.

“I will make hay out of this,” said Susan Whitaker, commissioner of the state’s Department of Tourist Development.

Whitaker was one of several to champion the notion that familiarity with this new technology will lead to economic and ecologic successes.

Seems silly to spend many thousands of dollars for a "limo" to carry eight passengers "within five miles of the hotel..." Virtually any of the available minivans (Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Kia, etc) could carry those eight passengers much farther and MUCH cheaper than this Leaf limo.
