I wish it were that simple. It isn't.
Ethanol is simply a bad idea on all counts as to being fuel. For now.
Gas prices would not drop with the elimination of ethanol. Too many other factors influence the price of gas at the pump.
I agree with the sentiment though. I hate to see all that ethanol not going into making great Bourbon really cheap! (grin)

I do not like having ethanol in my vehicle's fuel formulation but I don't know if some of the crop that has been damaged by the drought would only be good for ethanol production anyway.

cut the ethanol requirement to 5% or less, that will take the pressure off the corn market.

Problem is that the states are responsible for checking and regulating gas stations as to pumping rates and gas quality. I could be wrong about that, but without a funded federal mandate, the costs would come directly from state coffers.
Not arguing the point you made, just pointing out that someone has to pay for the bureaucratic red tape and AFAIK, it isn't the federal government at the pumps.

This is as close to a no-brainer as one can get. Ethanol in gasoline was a bad idea from the get-go. Diverting corn to fuel raises food prices, lowers fuel mileage and ultimately increases the consumption of petroleum. Don’t just waive the mandate; repeal it.

Let start properly labelling blended gas so people know exactly what they are buying. If your milk was 10% arsenic that would have to be labelled wouldn't it? Personally I don't mind 5 or 10% ethanol but would like to know exactly what the content is. State to state the difference can be huge.

"Once it's entrenched, you have a locked-in lobby that won't let you pry it out," Green said. "No matter that your environmental groups have walked away from it, international groups have walked away from it. Everybody has acknowledged it's bad public policy, but it's dug in like a tick."
Let's find some way to get rid of this....

a govt agency admitting a mistake in policy? yeah, that's gonna happen. our govt is way out of touch with reality. remember, the private sector is doing just fine.

The "corn farming" states are the ONLY states NOT asking to eliminate the ethanol mandate.
Keep up... ;-)

EPA cares not a whit about cost. Their agenda would price all energy out of reach. Their Luddite antipathy for America and its prosperity are the root of their rancor.
No pressure will influence the EPA.
That aside, the EPA is not the one mandating ethanol. Congress has. They will not stop the ethanol madness anytime soon. I hope it goes away.

The EPA just assumed the power and no one (the legislature) is doing anything about it. The Obama administration appointed the EPA chief, so they are not about to do something about reining them in. We need to stop using ethanol in gasoline now!
