Doesn't it cost more to put ethanol in fuel in the first place? If so, why would you have to pay more for non-E Fuel. Why not just make cleaner engines and do away with ethanol all together. I suppose that's not going to happen because it would kill the farming industry.

Don't you want to stop pollution? Of course we do. But government regulation or control is the worst way to solve any problem. Protect a fish, but destroy agriculture (CA). Conduct a study to find a way to stop a foreign (non-North American) fish from invading the Great Lakes and take so much time doing it that native species will be wiped out. Oil rig blows up so take a couple of months and lie a lot before really trying to contain the oil and stop the leak, mean while refuse to accept anybody's help, ESPECIALLY US citizens. Now they are going to increase the ethanol content. Gee, we are so grateful - NOT!!! Almost tempted to convert to steam or get a horse.

I feel we should pay LESS for E10, as that has less gas in it; ruins your engine; and decreases your mileage/fuel efficiency.
I would much rather buy fuel with no ethanol, which will last me longer and not ruin my car. But yes, since it's not a perfect world, I would be willing to pay a bit more for E0.

As my college roommate and present-day chemistry professor said, "Ethanol is just grain alcohol, and that's for drinking; it's not stuff for your gas tank.

Because 10% corn ethanol costs us from 1 to 2 miles per gallon, I would pay more for 100% gasoline. At most 15 cents per gallon.
Make ethanol but not using a food product.

The wholesale price for ethanol has risen from about $1.50/gallon in mid-summer, to around $2.25/gallon today; this is because corn prices have risen by about the same percentage. Ethanol was cheaper than regular unleaded gasoline a few months ago, but now it is about 20 cents more per gallon.
So for many reasons the increased use of ethanol should not be encouraged. The one other big reason, of course, is that increased ethanol production results in higher food costs -- a very big deal in many parts of the Third World.

If you take the subsidies off the ethanol all E-05 and higher would be $4.00 a gallon or more so if you take the ethanol out of the fuel it would be cheaper at the pump. Also one of the other posts made reference to there vehicle I to agree with them in my car and truck get's around 5 and 10 miles per gallon less with the E-10 than with straight gas.

I am all for pure gas. I get much better gas mileage with my vehicle when I am using straight gas. The E10 gives me about 20 mile per gallon. Straight gas gives me 25 to 26 miles to gallon. Highway mileage. That's an extra 5 or 6 miles. It's worth an extra 4 cents.

I've burned nothing but E10 in my gasoline cars for the past 20 years. I have never had a fuel problem.
E10 also saves you the hastle of adding "Heat" in the winter time. It's already in the fuel, so that will takes care of any water.
One of my cars (1990 Daytona Shelby) runs BETTER on the higher octain E10 (90 Octain), than on straight gas (87 octain). I've been tempted to mix in some E-85 (105 Octain). But I haven't done that yet.
Glad to see most people on this sight don't believe straight gas is worth paying any extra for.

Having an oil reserve is a good thing. That is for national and economic security, not cheaper prices. What if they stop shipping the oil we depend on across the pond, and we don't have a back-up plan?
So many people on these forums constantly say they don't like ethanol, and complain about how bad it for maintenance and MPG, yet most vote they would not pay a couple pennies for getter gas? Whats up with that?

Personally, I would pay 50 cents a gallon more if we stopped importing all foreign oil and used some of the trillions of gallons of oil we (the USA) have right here in our own country. I have never understood why some think it is a good deal for our planet’s environment as long as the oil derrick is on the other side of the globe and not here at home. Stop and think about it, if we stopped using corn in our fuel the price of food would go down because animal feed would be cheaper so we would break even in the long run. Now if we wanted to really bring down the price of gas just get rid of the multiple taxes that are added to each gallon by the government.

I would not pay extra. Simply because...with all the involuntary "up-charges" we have to put up with for many other things, I certainly am not going to voluntarily "up-charge" myself. If my car doesn't have a problem with the "cheaper stuff", neither do I.

E0 provides 5-10% increase in mileage (more energy content). It should be worth at least 5% more for that reason alone (=10-15c per gallon). Certainly curious that we are heavily subsidizing a fuel (ethanol) that is less efficient.

Personally I lose about 10% when I use E10 90 octane in my car, but the E0 91 octane (premium) does run so much better and about 10% more efficiently. Unfortunately, the increase in efficiency with E0 Premium doesn't quite match the $$ savings of E10 90 octane with the 10% loss of efficiency.BUT, I could stand to pay 1 to 2¢ a litre more for the pure E0 fuel. That kind of price increase doesn't even put a dent in my finances.

To know whether E10 is hurting the way your vehicle runs one must try E0. A big problem where stations are required to label if ethanol may be present is that the label only states, "may contain up to 10% ethanol" which means it might be E0. So using this fuel one can not state, "My car runs just fine on E10" because you don't now when you are buying E10.

It's interesting that 61% of the people here won't pay more for real gas, while 98% complain about ethanol. Personally I don't see much difference between the two on my car. But I do like the fact we are less held to OPEC. More US jobs and less money running out of the country. My next car will be electric and charged by solar. Even if the panels are bought from another country, that's a mere pittance of the amount of oil that would be bought for a gas car. Solar here, windmills now! The future is in alternative energy not OIL. Support the Picken's Plan NOW!

Maybe a few cents more, for the mileage. E10 fuel seems like an all around bad idea for consumers in my mind, just creates higher costs for us because we're being "Environmentally Friendly."

Lots of ignorant people not willing to pay a few cents extra for a far superior product.
For an extra 5 cents per gallon, I get 2.5 times my money back in better mileage guaranteed.
Try to get that return in the stock market.

I am shocked at the polster's that refuse to pay a little extra for ethanol-free fuel. Obviously, they have not calculated the extra cost for gasoline with ethanol. My vehicle averages about 17 miles per gallon with ethanol free gas or 15.5 MPG with e-10 fuel. In a 20 gallon tank using ethanol fuel, this will reduce my total miles driven by 30 miles. Averaging 15 miles per gallon that would cost an extra two gallons of gas or about $5.00. So, as long as the ethanol free gas does not cost more than 25 cents more per gallon, it is CHEAPER to use ethanol free fuel. Also, this reduces corn usage and reduces food costs. It is a no brainer.
