2-lane state routes = 40%

Funny thing happened this summer . . . I borrowed a GPS. And it indicated that the shortest route was only 5 minutes longer than the fastest route (for 1000 Km). So we went the short way. And it was great, less traffic, more scenery, leisurely pace. I would recommend it to anyone.

cant remember the last time I took a trip in a car of 100 miles but I would mostly drive freeways

Freeways mostly. Where I used to live you had to drive any where from 18 to 95 miles before you could use expressway.
