Wednesday on a 40 mile there and 40 mile back trip on TN 2-lane roads I saw more police and THP than I have seen in the past 10,000 miles.
Sadly of what I saw was little more than revenue enhancement. No, they didn't stop me for a talk. And maybe those who were "getting talked to" were not being fined.

My twelve years in California after 20+ in Tennessee have convinced me that Tennessee is safer than California, although folks that come south to Tennessee bring their bad driving habits with them.

Try to educate drivers will not help either. Look how many morons are out on the road. You can tell that by the number of uneducated people out there believed the lies that Obozzo promised in the last election.

Maybe they should raise the speed limits. It has worked very well in other areas.

I don't think it's any more a problem in Tennessee than any place else.Drivers everywhere do too many things behind the wheel other than watching the road.

"Remember the story about so many accidents at one curve that the city put up a warning sign? Accidents stopped, so they took down the sign. And accidents started again."
That's an interesting story. I wonder if it's a true story. My opinion is a lot of people get in trouble because they don't read the signs.

The state can do many things to reduce highway deaths: highway information and warning signs, monitoring use of seat belts, Police patrols, enforcement and speed traps, DUII or cell phone and distracted driver enforcement. Better drivers and good roads to drive on is a good thing. Or, it's one of those things and nothing can be done about it. It is what it is! Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible! The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

"Wonder how many are caused by distracted drivers. Texting, shaving, putting on makeup, lighting a smoke, eating etc."
This has been a problem for years so it doesn't explain the sudden rise in fatalities. In fact, I didn't see anything in the article that Tennessee identified as a cause.
