New map showing revised gas-oil drilling prospects in Ohio creates stir

Akron Beacon Journal -- A relatively simple multi-colored map is creating a buzz in eastern Ohio.

Some counties’ residents are ecstatic at the possibility they might be sitting atop lucrative deposits of natural gas/oil products. Others are dismayed to learn smaller volumes of gas and oil might lie deep under their feet than previously estimated.

At the center of what’s happening is a newly released map from the Ohio Dept of Natural Resources’ Division of Geological Survey. It shows excellent drilling potential under much of Stark Co. Large tracts of Tuscarawas, Coshocton and Trumbull counties also rate excellent. So, too, does eastern Portage Co.

Records show landowners can get signing bonuses of up to $5,800 an acre plus royalties as high as 21% on what’s produced by wells. The avg leasing bonus $2,500

Good news. I hope those people are ready for oil production development problems. They would be well served to get out in front of this development and debate/enact all of the zoning and regulatory problems before there is a time crunch which always produces many unhappy people.

For the guy from Waco who thinks Ohio does a pretty good job of restoring the land-YOUR MISINFORMED.Take a ride around Harrison Co. Ohio and tell me how Ohio restored the land after strip mines raped the Co.Also, this article fails to indicate those royalties won't flow until the wells produce, and since NG is almost bottomed out in price, these wells made not be drilled nor produce an ounce of NG for a period of time.

Been drillin for 75 years, exploring. They oil companies come around to different areas of the country that have a possibility. They lease for testing large tracts of land. My expierence leads me to beleive that less than 10% of this leads to actual drilling. Just sayin.....
