No Cap on Gas Prices

WSJ -- With a little more than six months to go before Election Day and with gas prices averaging $3.90 a gallon, the president called on Congress to pass new laws to help prevent financial speculators from driving up gas prices.

Stirring words, but ones unlikely to have any impact on gas prices. The measures Mr. Obama endorsed require congressional approval, and no one expects Congress to pass any of them.

There are things Mr. Obama could do under current law to rein in manipulation. For instance, investigate oil producers, refiners and traders. A year ago, he announced a "working group" of government regulators and law-enforcement agencies that would "root out any cases of fraud and manipulation."

Go ahead, Obama, investigate all you want. EVERY investigation over the past couple of decades by administrations of both parties has come to the same conclusion--No collusion, no manipulation. But if it makes you feel better (which it might), and you think it will garner votes in November (which it won't), go ahead and investigate.

What a loser!

There goes BHO again trying to stand on both sides of the fence. He is a oil speculator's best friend, they made lots of money off of his foolish policies.

@mnorthwood13 and others: And if the president would do something (like investigating), it would be all wrong again because it is government interference and against freedom of business and blablabla...

there are plenty of regulations that were put in place to help regulate "speculation" even prior to this administration - all that has to be done is enforce them

as much as I'd like to see the price go down, I don't want to see the government cap a price either. Let the free market system work things out. and as the member "gas too high" said, increase production

I am not a fan of our President. But I hate it when reporters call him Mr. Obama. He won the election and deserves the title President Obama, or if your addressing him you can say Mr. President.

The best way to lower gas prices is to increase supply, in other words:
