Canadian PM Blasts Obama on Keystone: The U.S. Is an Unreliable Energy Partner

The Blaze -- President Barack Obama’s rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline taught Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper one thing: it’s time Canada expand its list of oil buyers.

In an interview with the Canadian Wilson Centre think tank, the Prime Minister said the pipeline’s rejection — even if only temporary — was enough to underscore the need to find other buyers for oilsands crude.

“Look, the very fact that a ‘no’ could even be said underscores to our country that we must diversify our energy export markets,” Harper said. “We cannot be, as a country, in a situation where our one and, in many cases, only energy partner could say no to our energy products. We just cannot be in that position.”

The only oil the U.S. will get out of the Keystone Pipeline is what leaks out of it and into the groundwater supply. All that oil is destined for China as soon as it makes it to the Gulf of Mexico. We'll just collect a small toll for shepherding it across the Midwest.

Is it just seeping in from under the border? Why would the price on the U.S. side go up? Canada's not cutting us off. They need us to keep those dump truck drivers in British Columbia employed. (Oh, and they're not oil drillers, they're tar sand strip miners.)

Not so. I'll bet the unions in whose pocket that you assume Obama is in don't like him very much over this Keystone pipeline. I think the Obama haters out there think he can do no RIGHT. As for Canada. Isn't it nice that they actually give us a discount because we're such good friends? I wonder how happy that makes actual Canadian citizens who have to deal with $6.00/gal gas. I'll bet they love all that cheap Canadian oil leaving the country. If Canada wants to sell their tar sand oil so bad, they can build a pipeline to Vancouver and have China buy it. We're already producing more oil in North Dakota than we can refine. That's why the cheapest gas is now in places like the Dakotas, Montana, and Wyoming.
