Taxpayer subsidies for electric vehicles & hybrids = $135 million

GasBuddy Blog -- If you're one of those folks who scratch their heads when the U.S. government tries to pump up one industry, one energy source, or one kind of vehicle versus another, and at the same time penalize competitors in related industries, while undermining products fueled by other energy sources...

Then you've probably noticed that anyone in your neighborhood who's driving an Electric Vehicle (EV) like the Nissan Leaf, or the Chevy Volt ($40k, MSRP) or a Cadillac Escalade Hybrid SUV hybrid... isn't shopping for clothes and housewares at Goodwill.

Incidentally, if you're in the market, the 2012 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, which Cadillac calls "the world's first and only full-size luxury hybrid SUV", it has a MSRP range between $...

Hey isem! You mean the previous administrations are exactly the same as the current one? You asked if people voted for "Change" and how is is working out. Even you believe from that statement there is no change. Keep politics out of the forum.

The only good part of these subsidies is that in this era of trillion dollar budgets, $135 million is a drop in the bucket. But it would certainly be better if the subsidies went for something with a rosier future.

The vehicles are still too expensive. The taxpayers continue to subsidize the president's wishes.

More of our borrowed money pissed away by all the greenies. Wait until their kids have to ante up the payment on the bill. Then they'll be crying that it's not fair.

With several conventional internal combustion engine powered vehicles getting 40 mpg or better, it would seem that hybrid technology should be able to do 50% better... but hybrids fall way short. As for the $135 million, while that is huge to us as individuals, our government spends way more than that in an hour!

That is a bargain.

That is a lot less than the taxpayer subsidies for gasoline cars. When you add up all the national debt from wars to secure an oil supply, and all the interest on that debt, it runs into the Billions of dollars.

Outrageous!
If they are viable or potentially profitable, the market will provide the investments needed.
They are buying corporate donations.
