So if the VOLT is such a deal, why aren't they selling? How many of you out there own one or plan to buy one?

For all of those who think the Volt is great, I suggest you shut-up and buy one. Actually, buy seven of them, as the Volt comes in seven colors and you should have one in each color.

The idea behind the drivetrain of the volt is absolutely the way I see future vehicles going. Electric driven wheels that have a variable electrical creation unit onboard, specifically with added capacity from external sources for a limited range, should be the drivetrain of our vehicles. Hopefully, the external sources will become sustainable in time.
Done correctly, the power source for extended range can be varied based on the preferred fuel of the region.

Interesting but the Volt is simply not what we need. People can do a lot better for a lot less money. It's that simple....

If anyone has any doubts about the Volt, please look at the Volt Facebook page and other Volt sites. Very interesting testimonials.

I like the GOP because they know if you remove all the reinvestment incentives they will just pass on the cost to the consumer. So, I like the GOP, and Obama is wrong again! OH the Volt; I kinda like the car, but it is not for me.

Hey GreenAstro, a little hole in your article.
None of the cars listed except for the Volt is supposed to be economy cars!
Talking about slanting an articles to fit your needs. Compare it against, say the Ford Fusion!

GOP votes to protect Big Oil tax breaks --
Meanwhile, Big Oil gouges Americans at the pump --
Americans pay Big Oil twice. We pay for their tax breaks -- We pay more than $4 dollars a gallon for gas at the pump.
How do you like the GOP now???

Myth debunking in any arena is always commendable and worth reading. We seem to be a people who LOVE to create myths as a way of bashing whatever we don't like - in my estimation because we don't like to admit when we're wrong, and we don't want to put forth the time to research facts that could defend the argument. Glad this article was posted!

Never believed that President Obama "shoved the Chevy Volt down GM's throat." But I do believe he is propping it up, therefore placing his face on this product.

Amusing article --
Even better is the logical and honest observation by GreenAstro --
"Escalade 5 Year Total Cost to Own $76,001 F-250 5 year Total Cost to Own $57,529 Volt 5 year Total Cost to Own $40,444
So, you are shortsighted if all you look at is the initial cost of the car, for the 5 years that most people own a car the Volt is cheaper."

The high cost is no myth and the need to subsidize the cost with tax dollars is not myth either. Those are the reasons I will not own one. If the cost comes down and they have one that can handle a family of seven I may conceder one but not until then.

THE VOLT COST WAY TO MUCH. MAYBE IF THEY DROPPED THE PRICE BY 75% IT WOULD BE A MORE ATTRACTIVE BUY.

I love all the way too expensive comments.. guys you have not been looking at the prices of new cars lately..
Volt $39,312 Suburban $39,904 Tahoe $36,612 Ford F-250 $32,723 Escalade $61,223
Escalade 5 Year Total Cost to Own $76,001 F-25 5 year Total Cost to Own $57,529 Volt 5 year Total Cost to Own $40,444
So, you are shortsighted if all you look at is the initial cost of the car, for the 5 years that most people own a car the Volt is cheaper.

I have read a lot of reports in main stream media which suggest the Chevy Volt is not the quality vehicle as Chevrolet touts it to be. Problems with the lithium batteries and the electric motors. Seems like it was rushed out from the Research & Development Department of Chevrolet due to U.S. Gov't. pressure to produce something, anything to promote Pres. Barck Obama's energy resources agenda.

In a 51-47 vote, 43 Senate Republicans and four Democrats filibustered to protect $24 billion in tax breaks for Big Oil. Although a majority voted for Sen. Robert Menendez’s (D-NJ) bill, it fell short of the 60 needed. The only two Republicans to break rank were Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and retiring Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME).
A Think Progress Green analysis shows how oil and gas companies have funneled cash to the same senators who protected its handouts:
– The 47 senators voting against the bill have received $23,582,500 in career contributions from oil and gas. The 51 senators voting to repeal oil tax breaks have received $5,873,600.
– The senators who voted for Big Oil’s handouts received on average over four times as much career oil cash as those who voted to end them.
– Overall, Senate Republicans have taken $23.2 million in oil and gas contributions. Democrats received $6.66 million.
– Since 2011, Senate Republicans have voted seven times for pro-Big Oil interests and against clean energy three times.
