Has anyone used massage therapy for muscle and/or back pain?

Yes and it works! Brings out the toxins and revives everything! You mention back pain- have you tried a chiropractor for that? I found a good reflexology book at my library and learned to do it myself, since that worked well I learned acupressure (not puncture) for several different problems and what I've tried has worked fantastic. I have taught it to my friend and we work on each other and shoot the shi* afterwards while having coffee.

I have never tried the massage therapy route. I am not a touchy feely person, so im not convinced that i would be able to relax enough to gain something from it.

Oh, I've heard of Rolfing and wanted to look into that.

There are several forms and I enjoy Shiatsu more than Rolfing or Reflexology.

sister in law suffered a serious accident that left her shoulder in pain. Massage therapy helped (or it just got better on its own) She went once a week for a year - and it would get a little better each time - and last a little longer

I go to a muscle doctor from Germany. She does massage therapy in Gloucester, Va and is awesome. She has patients from as far away as Florida and cured my bursitis, when 2 docs I had seen hadn't been able to help me. I was in so much pain and after my first visit I was able to sleep that night. She is so amazing. Massage therapy can help so many problems.

I have fibromyalgia and myofacial pain syndrome, which, among other things, cause muscle knots, and continually contracted muscles (to some degree) everywhere on my body. I love a good massage... even deep tissue massage. But, oooh how I love those hot stones. When I lived in southern IL, just across from South County St. Louis, MO, I was a "charter member" of a woman's business, so I got a special rate. I was also her guinea pig for her when she learned another modality. Oh, how I miss those days!

Massage is one of the only things that gives me any kind of relief. I do use acupuncture now that my friend graduated from acupuncture school.

Nevertheless, I prefer massage.

I had massage therapy for my "sciatica". Most people enjoy their massages, well, mine was not enjoyable cause the therapist was trying to press on pain areas and get the pain to reduce. She was successful, but it hurt! She used hot stones and her elbow on some places.

Indications are that it is related to gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus where the painful areas were detected.

I was going back on Sat for another session, but I'll probably need it more after I'm out of hospital than before.

I really do think this is going to help my problems with the nocturnal pains (when I get up in the morning but start nocturnally) if I can continue to afford it for a few more times. Then, I will need to just start doing exercises for the affected muscles.

No xrays. I have so much cushioning that it's obvious it is a flesh wound. But, it really does hurt, esp if sitting on hard surface. But, I told the manager about the fall just in case anything else develops. And, suggested he fix the tables cause another lady said she was about to take the same fall when she saw me go down.

I had to cancel my appointment for Mon cause I have my first case of poison ivy spreading over my body and on affected area.

Add that I fell at Lowes on Friday and my rear hit the sharp metal edge of a cart that was left in the street by a customer. Thankfully didn't break anything, some swelling, big bruise, very sore, and burning pain at times. So this fall affected the area to be massaged, too. (The fall was cause they had tables of flowers that extended past the sidewalk curb onto the street. When looking at flowers on a table, one doesn't anticipate needing to step down to look at a level table. But, I stepped either sideways or backwards and down I went.

Yes
It is an excellent alternate for pain management. Just be sure to use one who has a good reputation.

Yup. I've used massage with great success. I've also used other energy modalities in conjunction with massage and am pleased with the results.
