The Beatles by far. Unfortunately, there's only two left.

The Beatles were actual musicians with a lot of musical talent. The Monkees were actors with lots of acting talent. I like them both but for different reasons.

The Monkees were actors on a TV show. The Beatles were real musicians. I enjoyed the Monkees too though, and I bought their first 4 albums. This was in the mid to late 60's, when they first came out.
The 3rd one, "Headquarters", was written and produced by them after they fired Don Kirschner. It was a brave move to show their "musicianship". It showed that they basically sucked. The 4th album went back to the professional production values.
The Beatles on the other hand evolved and became more innovative as they matured. They set the bar for both pop music and heavier rock during the 60's.

The Beatles also played "fun and innovative" songs. I enjoyed the Monkees but you can't compare them to the Beatles. Beatles were the BEST!

I don't know what year it was. I think 1968 or 1969 but the Monkees actually sold more albums then the Beatles that year. It was pure bubble gum but it was popular. I still would pick the Beatles.

Hey, no reason to get nasty about the Monkees. I'm simply asking which group do you prefer to listen to. I'm not at all implying that either one is a more talented group of musicians.
In fact my cousin has a story about Peter Tork that's kind of funny. My cousin used to live in an apartment complex with Tork. He would often hear Peter jamming with musicians that he would invite over. My mom asked my cousin if he ever said anything to Peter. He said, "Yeah, I yell 'SHUT UP!!!'" He also said that Peter's jams were pretty awful and annoying.

THE MONKEES??? LOL! Oh please. They never amounted to more than a pimple on The Beatles ass. About as significant as a lone flea on a grizzly bear.

No comparison. Give me George, Ringo, Paul and John. Would that they had kept together as a group a wee longer.
