Apple products are high-end but they're well worth the price. Their stuff just works (the great majority of the time). If it doesn't, help is available at the nearest Apple Store. I have never had a problem they have failed to fix without charging me. (Get AppleCare with your Apple stuff, it's well worth the extra cost.)

Late local news last night commented that Apple had been displaced from the top of the S&P 500. It only makes sense because Apple has one-fifth the sales of Exxon Mobil.

Apple stock closed the week at $439.88, down another 2.36% on the day.

ExxonMobil was up 0.42% and (IIRC) that means they are the most valuable company in the S&P 500.

Another thing I noted this morning: If you keep a free cash balance in your Sharebuilder account, the interest rate they pay (0.50% fixed) is a LOT higher than at Scottrade (tiered, can go as low as 0.01%).

I have experience with Sharebuilder and Scottrade, and I'm pretty happy with both of them. I also have experience with Pershing, but they do the trading for money managers and I assume you're not looking for a money manager at the same time.

Sharebuilder has the advantage that you can go out and buy $1 worth of Apple if you want to. (A fraction of a share.) Scottrade you can only do whole shares. Sharebuilder's commissions are cheaper if you're willing to go with an investment where they do it sometime on Tuesday, otherwise they're more expensive at Sharebuilder. Take a look at the Sharebuilder and Scottrade Web sites for more information.

Apple has cut back on their iPhone 5 parts orders. I'm planning to buy one in March, when I hopefully get my tax refund. It will be a big one as I overwithheld on a Roth IRA withdrawal.
