I love cruising. Took my first cruise in 1978. I now have 64 under my belt; and a couple on the horizon.

It is an easy way to visit a place without being stuck there if you don't like it.

No driving; no long bus rides; pack and unpack once; most entertainment and meals included; sleep in the same bed every night.

Yup, I LOVE LOVE LOVE cruising.

Alaskan Dream Cruises is our favorite. Enjoy 8, 9, 11 & 13-day cruises spotlighting scenic beauty, amazing wildlife and intriguing native culture. Linger in the midst of a pod of foraging, spouting, breaching whales, go kayaking and visit quaint southeastern Alaskan villages onboard one of three ships. An adventure of a lifetime.

I'm going on my first cruise in April. Hubby was so "up" that I was really excited until I learned our stops at St Thomas, etc. were only going to be 6 to 8 hrs each!

Boy, am I bummed! I wanted to actually SEE some of each island, meet local folks, etc. Not just do a tourist run.

I was on a transatlantic crossing on the QE II before she was retired. THAT'S worth doing!

However, I will make the MOST of it, as I never plan on cruising again. I'll just go visit places with my condo time-share. All the luxury of cruising & getting to see the place too.

Maybe the cruise to Alaska is my favorite because l won almost enough to pay for our cruise and side trips. $2600 and had just won $1000 before we left in Reno. Don't gamble anymore because l don't want to give it all back. Quit while l'm ahead thing. Smile l have many good memories of the few cruises l took. Amazingly l met people on their 12th or more cruise.

l hope "they"don't jump all over me for bringing this post up again. l enoy cruises, especially the inland to Alaska. Princess is the only line l have been on and always found it was super.
l did not like the deeper water feeling and sounds on the way to Hawaii, but people aboard said "Oh this is nothing, you should try the Atlantic". Well, that was my last cruise. l am not fond of flying, but l much prefer to get wherever and enjoy the place. Course l did get sick on the Hawaii trip and stayed in my room a lot. Ordered 2 meals at once to get what l wanted on each entree. The food is what it's all about to me.

Just back from a 7 day cruise aboard the Oosterdam to the Mexican Riviera. Thought the service and food not near as good as we had on the Zuiderdam when we went to Alaska or as good as we had with Princess when we went to the Panama. Always thought HAL was better, but no longer. Next cruise will be with Royal Caribbean aboard the Oasis or Allure of the Seas. Have to experience the "big" ship.

Cruise was great - didn't eat steak and lobster everyday but the food was very good. Drinks were not included and had a 15% gratuity on top of anything you bought. Room tip was charged at 11.50 per day per person. It was nice not having to pay a sales tax on anything.

We are going to book another cruise for March or April 2013.

Just booked a seven day cruise out of San Diego to the Mexican Riviera with Holland America. We have a balcony cabin and I expect to have breakfast on our balcony every morning and then head up to the Lido deck to graze a bit.

ERO, I don't believe there are any hidden costs when you cruise. All the cruise lines are very open with what is included and what you pay extra for. You may not get steak and lobster for seven days but you can try. Booze is extra but you can buy a soft drink card that will get you as much of that as you will need for the time you are onboard. Some nights in the dining room is suit and ties and nice evening wear for the ladies. We love those nights but you can always get all you need on the Lido deck (buffet)
The cruise lines generally add so much a day, per person for tips but if you don't want to pay that you can ask to have it removed. We never do and always add personal tips to the crew that has treated is well. We love the evening entertainment and always sit in the front row. I believe you will love your holiday. Enjoy!

Good Morning, Everyone!

I know I haven't been around a whole lot in the last couple of months. Believe me, it's not because I don't want to be. You are all in my thoughts and prayers every day. I love all of you!

Happy Thanksgiving! :-)

New to cruising, read through the first page which goes back 3 yrs so I don't want to read anything older then that.
Booked on Princess for a November Southern Caribbean cruise. Booked a interior cabin with anytime dining. Ocean View and Balcony would have put this one out of reach plus its our 1st one. (it is an all inclusive) I expect to eat steak and lobster for 7 days... :D
My flights are non-stop- 1 less wrinkle.

The ship is the Crown Princess with stops in Princess Caymans, Curacao, and Aruba.

What are some of the things they don't tell you? (Hidden costs)
any comments welcome.

We choose a cruise over a stay in Cancun this time around.

I am taking my first cruise on August for a friends wedding. I am really looking forward to it. It's a 4 day cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale going to Key West (one of my favorite places) and Cozumel.

Crystal is a cruise line with a New Year's resolution: On every cruise in 2011, the line will offer a free, participatory shore excursion, allowing passengers to help out with local charitable projects around the world.
I love this idea. I want to meet the real locals and do stuff. This is the kind of things you want to drag your entitled teenagers to. They can see how good they have it even if they have a lousy prepaid cell phone. You can enjoy yourself and even do some service without joining the Peace Corp.

I've seen scooters for rent once you get to a port but not through a ship... Sorry!

And, I would recommend getting several of the photos. They make very nice rememberances.

I'm not seeing a whole lots of info on scooter rentals at various ports. How much do they cost? Is it rare thing for tourist to rent scooters? Maybe tourist are too drunk to ride safely?

I heard you can have your wife get the soda pass and then you just share drinks. I need to get off the sweet stuff myself. Water works for me. I'll be pigging out on the food anyways. I could do without the soda.

The question is how much do you want to spend on the ship?

You can spend virtually nothing if you only drink iced tea or ice water or juice... If you want a soft drink or alcohol it all depends on how much you want to spend. The prices are very similar to a restaurant.

Also, there are the photos the ship's photographer takes...those are EXPENSIVE. If you decide to go the the casino...it's up to you how much you spend there. Another HUGE pitfall is the internet on a ship... My daughters ran up a $500 bill just for that!!!

You also have your tips for the cabin steward, dining room staff, etc. There are recommended amounts somewhere on your ships website.

I hope this helps even though it wasn't very specific as everything is an individual's taste.
