Karen Rodgers says she does not want it. Too many chances for career ending concussion.

I'm hoping that this is just a negotiating ploy by the owners because I believe an 18 game schedule would be a huge mistake. Hopefully the multimillionaire owners and the millionaire players can come to an agreement on a new CBA without having to resort to a lockout and we can enjoy another entertaining season later this year.

Good tired of games with no meaning, low attendance, players don't care, etc.
If you are going to bill me. Bill me for games that have meaning and the players play! These current preseason games should be free for the heart brought to them by the players.

NFL "management" is obviously much more concerned about the size of their collective wallets than they are concerned about player health and safety.

18 game season is stupid! Just two more games to not watch because the teams are boring and going nowhere! We need more dog shows on TV and maybe more poker!

WASHINGTON -- Concerns about injuries and insurance make the league's push to switch to an 18-game regular season a major sticking point in negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement, according to two NFL players who are members of the union's executive committee.
The NFL wants to add two games to the current 16-game format for the regular season, and eliminate two of four pre-season games, saying fans would prefer that and more revenue could be generated.
NFL UNION MEMBERS CALL LEAGUE'S 18-GAME PROPOSAL UNACCEPTABLE

If they are going to go to 18, why not 19 ?
That way, each team can play every team in its conference once and play each team from a division in the opposite conference.
Just a thought.
Don't crucify me please ... ;o)

All I can say is, if they are in fact going to 18 games, they better change the way bye weeks are handled! There is no way they can expect it to be fair for a team to have their bye in week 4 and then go another 15 straight weeks.
They should really go to 8 teams on bye over a 4 week stretch and start the bye weeks on week 8. Either that, or go 4 teams on bye starting week 7, 6 teams on bye weeks 8 through 11, and the remaining 4 teams on bye week 12. This may help (but not enough) in regards to players health.
Smoke, just to clarify my point...I don't think it right for owners to ask for more money from the season ticket holder just because they shifted the pre-season games to regular season games. I realize the current pre-season prices cost the same as a regular but this is merely an excuse to justify raising the overall season prices. This justification may be easier to make or more accepted if attendance was up but it is not...if memory serves me right, I believe attendance has fallen the last 3 years. That drop equates to one of 2 things; either fans can't afford it or the product is not as good. This is how the oil industry operates and most of us don't like it....are you an oilman? ;)

I never said the owners wouldn't raise ticket prices, but, as I said, don't think that a pre-season(or meaningless) game costs any less.
All the owners are doing is shifting 2 games from pre-season to regular season mode.
In my own opinion, and not necessarily those of the others in this forum, I have no problem with it.

Coach, I totally agree with your comments. Owners want more games to put more money in their pockets at the expense of the players' health.

smoke, I think you are fooling yourself if you think owners will not up the price of season tickets when shifting to an 18 game schedule. It is about making money but fans have been quietly speaking with their lower attendance, yet the average price keeps going up.
I , for one, like what teams like the St. Louis Blues are doing...season ticket holders pay for half the season up front and if they don't make the playoffs, the other half is waived. This may not be a workable model for the NFL but I'm sure something similar could be worked so as to give some more incentive for the fan to show their support.

I don't like the 18 game regular season. Too many games and the players careers will be shortened. The total number of games to play will stay the same (pre-season and regular season) but the starters/better players don't play too much in the pre-season.

I personally have no problem with an 18 game regular season. I understand the arguments that some have against it though.
Yes, two more games could mean more injuries to players, but, in the end, all it takes is one play and your career could be over anyway.
Most teams charge regular season prices for tickets for a pre-season game, or include buying pre-season game tickets with their season ticket package, so, really, that argument, for me, doesn't hold much water.
In the end, yes, it's a money move on the part of the owners, because regular season games bring more TV and radio compensation than pre-season tilts do.
The NFL is a business, plain and simple, and they are in business to make money. They've found a way to make more. I say good for them.

What the NFL owners don't understand is fans want to SEE more football but they don't necessarily want to PAY for more football. Attendance is down throughout the league and they think the solution is to have more games? That's not logical.
I've seen a few players comment on it, saying as long as they are fairly compensated they are okay with it. So the bottom line is the owners want more money and the players want part of that money even though the decreasing number of fans in the seats screams of ticket prices being too high.

I agree. This will shorten players careers. More injuries for sure. Rosters will have to be expanded by 10 players, so rookies will have a chance to make the team with 2 less preseason games.

Stupid. I love football but why do we need two more games? There will be more injuries.
