Which one would you pick for rookie of the year ?

OR ... do you have someone else in mind ?

Ovechkin should win it. He had an outstanding season with a lousy team and Crosby had a very good season with a terrible team.
Hopefully the Capitals and Penguins will build around these guys and we can watch them in the playoffs next season!

Oveshkin was just too talented this year, he'll be rookie of the year.

This is an easy one,a no brainer. Give it to him now, no vote needed, it's Ovechkin! Crosby's good, but not like Alex.
Go Red Wings! They will be back.

you're a wise man Finger...I am jealous of your team in the playoffs. They are definitely the hottest team right now.

Hey GM, you gotta be kidding me with that comment. More rounded? Alexander never met a check (other than a paycheck) that he liked. He plays no defense whatsoever. How many of the 52 were shorthanded? As a pure goal scorer, he is a human highlight film, but I'll take Kid Sid on my team any day of the week. Sidsational will make a star out of players like Colby Armstrong and Andy Hilbert. We'll see how their career stats will compare.

hey Joey with 3 games left, it is not out of the realm of possibility that Kid Sid will catch and pass Alexander for the rookie scoring title. The only thing that sways the total is that Ovechkin has way more goals.

Phaneuf scores game winner tonight against the Avs and records his 20th goal of the season.

Kipper gets 10th shutout of the season. No goalie even comes close to his stats. Goaltending Leaders

I have to say I would vote for Crosby because Ovechkin's rookie year was supposed to be last year. But in the end the point difference will persuade everyone to vote for the Capital's star. Hopefully he will be the youngest to get to 100 points. Go Pens. (well maybe next year lol)

True I am a Flames fan but that doesn't mean that Phaneuf is not a top 3 candidate for the Calder trophy.

Look at Phaneuf's stats and you see that the hockey analysts compare him to a Scott Stevens and some traits of Bobby Orr. Phauef can do it all! Alot of the hockey analysts said the same thing, if it wasn't for Alex and Sid, Phaneuf would win hands down. Do you actually watch hockey on TV, follow it online or even go to the games???

Phaneuf so far has scored 19 goals which broke the Flames rookie record be a defense man. Gary Suter's record in fact and Suter became an all-star. Phaneuf's 19 goals ties him with Phili Housley for 3rd on the all time scoring for rookie D-men.

Phaneuf has the 2nd most goals by any defense men in the 05-06 NHL season so far. Only MATHIEU SCHNEIDER has more goals, and that is because he plays for an offensive team. The Flames are extremely defensive, so 19 goals is an incredible feat by a Flames Defense man, not to mention a rookie.

TDice... two seasons ago. :)
2003 Jackson from the Blues.
1997 Berard from the Islanders
1989 Leetch from the Rangers
1986 Suter from the Flames

I think you meant to say that it is uncommon for a D-man to win, and I agree. If it wasn't for Sid and Alex, Phaneuf would be a shoe-in.

Maybe Phaneuf will take home the Norris trophy.

Hey guys, when talking about hockey in Pgh. nowadays, we gotta speak up when we can. In actuality, Crosby has outplayed Alexander "3" times this season when playing head to head (all Pens wins). Kolzig can't beat us if his life depended on it.

SAIT; only got to see Dion play live here once this season. I agree that he is super, but when was the last time a defenseman won the Calder?

icekings ...

Crosby 1G 1A

Ovechkin 1G

Both were 0 for +/-

Like icguy said, it is one game - the season is 82 games ...

Its ovechkin, no question. Not only has he scored a lot more goals than Sid the kid, he has way more game winning goals and game turners. And Sidney had the opportunity of playing on a line with Palffy for many games and didnt do much.

Like to see either Crosby or Ovechkin come down the wing against Phaneuf... Phaneuf would end thier season with a massive body check into the boards.

Phaneuf, Rookie of the Year!

Do you fellas think that the Olympic tourny will tire out Ovechkin and/or will it make Crosby rusty? I think whoever leads the rookies in scoring will win the Rookie of the Year.

What are you 2 guys up in Canada smokin up there? Crosby has better players on his team? That must be why if not for the Blues, the Pens would be looking at their 3RD OVERALL #1 pick in the last 4 years! Ovechkin is very good, don't get me wrong. It's that he should have been last years ROY, but thanks to the lockout he'll battle Kid Sid to the end.

So far, Ovechkin should get the rookie and MVP honours. I tell you what...name me one other player on the Captials. Ovechkin is carrying this team on his shoulders and is deserving of both the rookie and MVP so far. Crosby, on the other hand, is on a team loaded with stars and he's not doing as good as Ovechkin. If Crosby was carrying the load that Ovechkin is carrying in Washington, he would have crumpled by now.

My vote: OVECHKIN.

ps: I'm a Flyers fan by the way so no vested interest in Ovechkin or Crosby here.
