It's a shame that some people seem to be prejudiced against people who don't fit their perfect "ideal."
We aren't talking about a "bionic" implant here, it is two pieces of steel to take the place of real legs. Steel can never supplant real muscles for a runner.

So what if they are made of spring steel. Has he even qualified yet? NO. Has he run a time fast enough to get him on his national team? Not yet. What are you so afraid of? THE GUY HAS NO LEGS!!!
Rather than people like me, it is people like you, who are uncaring and heartless, who are screwing up the world.
I'll tell you what. Why don't we cut off your legs, fit you with spring steel prosthetics, and let you qualify.

That's like comparing apples to oranges. Someone who has lost a body part and gets a prosthetic device to replace it should be able to compete against able bodied athletes.
If your argument is that the able bodied athlete shouldn't be allowed to compete against handicapped athletes is because they would have an advantage, then why not allow the handicapped to compete against the able bodied? Wouldn't they be a decided underdog then by your reasoning?
You can't have it both ways. Either they have an advantage or they don't, which is it?

I can't believe that you are suggesting a person who has LOST HIS LEGS and has to rely on artificial legs to walk should be prevented from achieving his dreams.
First and foremost, he has to qualify for his national team, then qualify for the finals, then actually win the race. It makes for a great human interest story.
Should a deaf player be forbidden from any sport because they rely on a hearing device to assist them? That's what your reasoning suggests. How about Casey Martin, the golfer who had to sue to be able to use a cart so that he could play on the PGA Tour? Should he have been forbidden from pursuing his dream because he risked dying from walking?
