Can't wait for season to start next week. What about others from Texas and the Midwest. Did anybody see the high school game on ESPN yesterday between the teams from Florida and Alameda?

California will have State Championships for the first time this year.

Am in Dallas, TX area, so saw the Southlake Carroll Dragons last year in
playoff game and was impressed. Saturday saw Highland Park play in State and they beat Marshall 59-0 which was a record for Texas 11-man FB State Final score. Texas high school football is great - have only seen surrounding states - LA., OK., ARK., CO., MISS., & KS. - so am limited in not having seen California or Florida which are supposed to be other strong states in HS FB.

I like the Placer High School Hillmen Football team in Auburn, CA. They had a bad season this year, only winning 3 or 4 games but go Hillmen in '06! - BlackSedan PHS '70

Re: Varsity Football - South Lake Carroll (America's Team, rated #1 in the nation) is about to earn the Republic of TEXAS State Title again. First they have to dust Lufkin (who has been sort of lucky this year). - Black Sedan (Banned by the weak sisters who own 5atxfootball and in Iran!)

My son's football team (3-1) plays the league powerhouse, Logan (4-0) this week. Everyone who sees this message can help out and vote for their match-up as the "Game of the Week" in the San Francisco Bay Area. Go to www.sportsfocus.tv and click on Logan vs. Washington.

Thanks, GO HUSKIES!!!

Damn, JP2005,

WOW, 132 points in a high school game. Are your quarters 12 minutes long? They are here in California.

Texas H.S. Football, I remember those days....
Last game I ever played in was against Austin WestLake. We lost in the Semi's 84-48. Those were the days!

Hey Football 64,

I have a sore spot for De La Salle. I went to Nevada Union, in Grass Valley. We were, in a way, the NorCal powerhouse...untill, 1993, the year I graduated....we we got toasted by De La Salle in the Norcal championships. Then I left for the Univ. of Texas, and found out what HS football is REALLY about. You have not seen HS Football untill you have seen it in Texas!

travelless,

I checked out Byrnes via a google search and they do appear Awesome in their game against Greer, Byrnes amassed 645 yards in total offense and cruised to a 56-0 victory. The article rates them No. 8 in the National Prep Poll.

Too bad I'm here in California. De La Salle from Concord, CA used to be the national powerhouse until last year when they lost for the first time after 155 consective victories dating back to 1993.

Football64,

Yes Byrnes H.S. in Duncan, S.C(between Greenville & Spartanburg). I HAD TO SEARCH BY CITY & STATE TO FIND THEM ON MAXPREPS.COM. They're 4-0 & have outscored their opponents 251-27. Also won 3 straight AAAA Division II State Titles(42-2 during that run) & should add 4th this year. Has a junior QB named Will Korn who had already committed to Clemson and a back-up getting alot of attention from division I colleges. One downfall, even though Korn will be back next year they have 36 seniors,'06 will be tougher.

Travelless,

I went to maxpreps.com and could not find that high school. Is the spelling correct? Byrnes High School

You need to come to SC and see Byrnes HS play. I'm not a fan pushing his team but I haven't seen a team come within 48 points and that was one of Tennessee's top teams.

wr1tx, since my son's a lineman (6'-1" 225lbs.) I need the 11 man game. His team won last night 21 - 7. He had to block the nose tackle who weighed in at almost 300lbs. My son held his own allowing this player only 1 tackle. Can't wait 'til next Friday Night

To Football64:

You really do need to come to Texas to experience a high school game.

In Friday Night Lights, the outcome of that game with Dallas Carter was not real. In a real playoff game around that same time period, Odessa Permian actually won that game. Permian is a legendary program in Texas.

A few years ago, Permian played at Temple in a classic matchup: #1 (Permian) vs. #3 (Temple). Temple won that game 17-14 in one of the best games one would ever see. Temple eventually won the state 5A title game over Houston Yates in a blowout.

Now, a six-man game is really interesting. All 6 players are eligible receivers, and a team can win 80-70! 2 points for a PAT, and 1 point for a run into the end zone (it's actually easier). There is a 45-point mercy rule, which isn't often implemented.

Texas high school football is fun to watch on all levels! It also doesn't hurt to have a son playing 8th grade ball!

Would love to experience the energy of a Texas High School game. I have heard that in some towns, a family must purchase season tickets in order to have a seat. Loved the movie "Friday Night Lights".

Here in California, the state high school federation finally voted for a state championship in football. Not sure how it will work but it's a step beyond regional titles.

I love high school football. Texas has some of the best in the state. In Central Texas, we have some serious local rivalries, as well as with some of the schools in the Austin area (I live in Temple).

2005 is shaping up to be a great year in high school football, no matter what classification you talk about (1A through 5A, even 6-man).

I love high school football too and that Florida-Alabama game was good. I saw it. Anyways. Even though our team isn't the greatest against most of the AAA teams, I still support them. I'm in my high school's drumline too soo I'm at almost every game. Our band director lets us go to the close away games and of coarse all the home games. We just won this past Friday night 21-0 against Berkley Springs. The first game they played was against Jefferson and we lost 31-3. GO HAMPSHIRE TROJANS!!!

I'm in the same boat as you...I love high school football. I graduated this past year, but I'm still gonna be there for every game I can see. This past week we won 22-0, Go GBN!!!
