The Department of Energy released its weekly report on the condition of petroleum inventories in the United States today.

Here are some highlights:

Crude oil inventories increased by 1.6 million barrels to a total of 359.3 million barrels. At 359.3 million barrels, inventories are 5.3 million barrels above last year (1.5%) and are above average. Supply at NYMEX delivery point, Cushing, Oklahoma rose 0.0 million barrels to 41.9 million barrels this week.

Gasoline inventories decreased 7.0 million barrels to 209.7 million barrels, likely as they drain the system of winter spec (high RVP) gasoline. At 209.7 million barrels, inventories are now 11.7 million barrels, or 5.3% lower than last year (last week that number...

These prices are just outrageous and I don't see an end in sight. I last time they went up like this they maxed out at about 4.75 a gallon. I drive for a living and pay for my own gas but with a small stipend that doesn't go up accordingly. Something needs to be done.

tomok: actually, around here, price got jacked up by about 15 cents. Oh, diesel went from 3.89 to 405 overnight this week and from 3.69 to 4.05 in the past 10 days.

Crude oil inventories increased, Gasoline inventories decreased, Distillate inventories decreased, Refinery utilization fell, Production ethanol decreased and the price of fuel at the pump is still too high!

It's all about the pump price for most Americans. Inventories don't drive the price.

"Rockies plants ran at 69.3% of their capacity while East Coast plants ran 39.0% of their available capacity."

East Coast refineries: 39% of available capacity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I quess there is no where to store their product. If this number is not a mistahe, it is shocking, but great, that conservation is working to decrease use, but sadly, not prices yet. The bubble has to burst.

If you think inventories are high now, just keep prices at $4 and above and watch the inventories grow.

Ok, so the refiners are producing less gas here at home and importing more gasoline from abroad. Go figure! Crude should be lower so we're still screwed.

All the 'conserve more' and 'drill baby drill' folks, read the first paragraph.

One station here hit $4.01 this evening, others are $3.89-3.95. Up from $3.59 last week.
