In case you haven't been following gasoline prices lately- I'll give you a pointer: prices are headed downward. Having said that, it only makes sense for me to reiterate that motorists should not be filling their tanks full as I expect that prices will continue to fall in a majority of states. Even prices in Salt Lake City- some of the highest in the country- are showing signs of improvement.

Why fill your tank with more expensive gasoline when you can take advantage of falling prices as well? Sure- gasoline stations would love you to fill your tank- it would help them get rid of more expensive supply, allowing them to buy new supply at a lower cost, but how about some savings for you?

Just in the past few days, prices...

Why? because if I half fill my car and buy five gallons instead of ten; I can't make a trip without a nagging concern of running with the low fuel light on; and having to buy gas that may cost well more than I saved being frugal. 2) if the price goes down twenty cents a gallon; I have postponed spending a dollar more and getting all the concerns to save a buck. Maybe your time is worth a lot less than mine; but I'll spend the extra buck and save the worry; life is too short to go to the gas station twice as often to MAYBE save a buck. or two or even three.

Wrong. Greedway spiked at 9am today. Glad I filled up at 7am. They have spiked 3 times in 13 days, for a total increase of 39 cents compared to 13 days ago.

The prices might be falling elsewhere, but they took a jump here since
Saturday, at almost every pump. We're slightly below the state average, but just barely.

I will be filling up early Tuesday morning. With the way wholesale has jumped (up 16 cents since 6am Tuesday), GREEDway, I mean Speedway will surely spike about 20 cents later Tuesday am. I would not be surprised to see it happen today even, with the holiday weekend.

I fill up every week reguardless of the price going up or down. You may think your saving by only putting a small amount into the tank at a time but when you have to make more stops at the gas station your going to end up eating what you saved.

And I filled it up. I don't expect much of a decrease in prices until after Memorial Day, and I'll use up this gas by then.

For the prices to fall I have to fill up first! That's the way it's always been for me...I wait until I have to fill up hoping they will come down, but they don't until after I fill up.

So the next time you see the price fall you'll know I just filled up!

Had I filled up at the last price spike, I would have paid 2.89 a gallon (17 days ago). Now, I can get gas for 2.55 and it's still dropping. On a 20 gallon tank, that's a savings of $6.80 (or 2 value meals at Wendy's).

MrMrsPjourney: you can dream.. sure. The problem with low pump prices though - it encourages more driving but not more research into getting us off the monopolic oil kick.

I live in Salt Lake area and I am still waiting for the prices to go down. My big question is how did they get so high here. We have Oil pipelines going to the refineries just outside of Salt Lake. Yet we are or were number four in the nation for high price. Do they have an gas price board somewhere that makes decisions like this?

Unfortunately, crude prices seem to be heading up again. That will translate (quickly) into higher gas prices - so waiting to fill up may not work after all.

I need to get gas. I can not wait for cheaper prices. If I fill half or full it's only a matter of a few cents. At most it would be $1 difference.
I'll fill FULL when I need to, thank you!

Amazing how slow gas prices are to drop when oil drops but it goes up at any whiff of an increase in oil prices.

You are absolutely right. Something everyone need to think about. Only put about 5 gallons in at a time until prices level off. That being said, prices are not really going down in my area. With crude down 18 dollars gas should have come down about 50 cents and it has only come down about 10 to 15 cents.

What gives.

It isn't worth it to me to fill up in three trips to the gas station to save $2-3. Time is money, too. And it messes up my MPG calculations. When my tank is near empty, I find the lowest price near me, and I pounce for a full fill-up.

If you are on a trip it makes no sense to stop every hour or two then just buy 4-5 gallons hoping that it will be cheaper further down the road. Until the higher priced fuel has been sold it's not going down.
