COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A state natural resource agency's proposed rules for drilling in state parks would require natural gas and oil companies to stay at least 300 feet — the length of a football field — from campgrounds, certain waterways and sites deemed historically or archaeologically valuable.

Documents on proposed rules were released by the state Department of Natural Resources this week after the Ohio chapter of the Sierra Club filed a lawsuit claiming the agency ignored repeated requests by the group to review them.

The proposals for drilling leases also includes an 89-page report listing "best management practices" on topics like site restoration and guidelines for emergency and pollution incidents. Other proposals include state approval before companies could store drilling was

Horizontal drilling goes a lot further than 300 feet.

"Would you drink water from a waterway 300 feet from a fracking well?"

Any person with outdoors experience knows that there are very few waterways that are safe to drink from no matter where they are located. Moot question.

This is ridiculous. They better be charging VERY HIGH royalties for this kind of thing.

I'm all for gas, but I need gas so I can go camping..SOMEPLACE NICE!

Another question is, "Would you drink water from a waterway 300 feet from a fracking well?"

It's best to stay as far away from any wellheads; crews working these sites, are given the training and the survival gear (IE. breathing apparatus); these operations could hit explosive pockets of many types of gas, some under blowout proportions, (IE. Hydrogen sulfide H2S, a deadly, heavier then air and explosive gas). Gases like this do not mix well with the general public and their naivety in these matters.

I rather camp near Fracking Well, than a commie-liberal-tree-hugers.

Those CLTH's smell!!

If your not familiar with their smell, its very similar to the odor of a hippie.

So much for camping in any Ohio State Parks. Somehow I don't think the state and national camping associations will let this farce get by easily.

So the Newsville misinformation czar is concerned about this actual news. Too bad docp...

If you have, I pity anyone dragged along with you john!

Apparently, cakes knows better than the bluffing post how to headline for the most effect.

And the other cake eater only moderates conservative news, others will have to notify the mods of this transgression.

A couple of questions:

Cakes77, why did you change the title of this blog story?

And where's letmeeatcake, our self appointed Newsville Czar?

As to Cakes77's question, sure I would and have.

As for the proposed rules they appear just about the same as would be drawn up on a private land drilling lease. Sierra Club always has their panties in a wad, nothing new there.

Jed Thorp, the Sierra Club's Ohio chapter manager, said the proposals are inadequate. He said he's hopeful state lawmakers will eventually reverse the law.
