Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communications technology received a big vote of confidence this past week, when Consumer Reports came out in support of it.

For many, the term V2V may elicit little more than a puzzled scratch of the head, but the magazine's support is one more sign that, ready or not, all of us are going to be hearing more about the nascent technology in the near future.

Just one more instance where the government can keep their eye on where someone goes.

It seems to me that we live in a day and age of ID theft, and everything we do seems to aid the thieves. You can not have any kind of service performed, medical, auto etc, without filling out your life history.

This just feels like a new avenue for the thieves to snag your info and temptation for those who are suppose to have it, to be corrupted.

I agree with Consumer Reports that lives will be saved by using this technology, but I'm afraid that the collected info will be abused.

Outstanding comments by JamesCalvin and ExplorerWA! Especially loved the Ronald Reagan quote that JamesCalvin posted.

Ronald Reagan used to say the nine most fearful words are:

"I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

I don't want a car sending info to local, state and federal government agencies and who else without my knowledge or permission. The potential for abuse is very high. No thanks.

Good idea, but not that much benefit until most people have the technology. Until then it will be of limited use. A good idea, though.

$100+ per car and untold amounts by governments. I see it being pushed toward interstates and not much else due to cost.

It's not paranoia if they really are watching you

A matter of opinion. I view it as an invasion of privacy and the communications being sent out by a vehicle can be abused in a lot of ways.
