Purists seek ethanol-free fuel for lawnmowers, prized cars

"Ethanol, he said, has a short shelf life because it evaporates, attracts water and will degrade if stored in an old gas can. “We run into this all the time. People say, ‘I just got this gas last summer.’”

He said using ethanol can lead to carburetor issues and is hard on cylinders, pistons and gaskets.

“When you have an engine that’s a two-cycle, you put oil into the fuel to be a lubricant,” he said. “But if you have the ethanol, it’s a degreaser.”

Overall, he recommends using ethanol-containing fuel quickly or not at all.

“The government requires that all engines now be able to use 10 percent ethanol. You can use ethanol, but it’s in your best interests not to,” he said. “You will experience a lot fewer running issues.”

Any gas station selling gas w/ethanol is selling a defective product.

Any company selling 2-cycle engines that can not operate on E-10 are essentially selling a defectively designed product.

Another junk article from big oil shill antiguzzle. I have never had a problem with E10 gas. I used to run my lawn mower out of gas each fall, but have not the last two winters. The 30 year old lawnmower starts up and runs fine in the spring and all the rest of lawn mowing season.

Another hog wash article. Do you really think manufacturers would warranty their products if ethanol was that bad? I have never come across any literature that proclaims more damage by ehtanol than non. The mechanics proclaiming this are the back door mechanics who want to stir up a stink.

With guys like antiguzzle continuing to spread such ridiculous misinformation and outright lies, it's no wonder the gullible think they need ethanol-free gas for their lawnmowers and snow blowers.

Gasoline is a mix of many chemicals. It goes stale when the lighter fractions evaperate off. Hydrocarbons in the fuel also react with oxygen making the gas go sour. This will happen with or without ethanol present.
~If you want your gas to stay fresh, use a stabalizer and store in a tightly capped metal container filled right to the top. This also works with or without ethanol present in the gas.

~oh that's a good one. People having trouble with year old gas, and blaming it on the ethanol. Got news for you - Plain old E0 will degrade all on it's own, no 'help' from ethanol required.
