I haven't been past this construction for a while. Maybe one day soon. Curious to see if any progress and if they have sold all their stalk bales yet.

ethanolbob, ever look past on all the "hope" of the cellulosic ethanol even you posted about back in 2008 or so...
So far not much has changed...
Thought it appears alot of foreign companies seem to be taking advantage of the grants from state and feds..

POET breaks ground on Liberty plant I didn't go it would've been about two hour drive.Prefer to tour the plant when it's operational. If anyone's interested Sioux City television station covered the ground breaking ceremony.

Did anyone go to this groundbreaking ceremony? I was too busy elsewhere.

Over the last few years a lot of companies have announced plans to build a cellulosic ethanol plant but I am not aware of any commercial scale cellulosic ethanol plants that are operating at a profit. Talk is cheap.

The fields I have seen in that area have more than one ton of stalks removed. That is an estimate based on field appearance. I have not been able to learn the bales sales price yet.
I'm sure they moved their program off site because of the bale hauling activities still going on at the piling site adjacent to their future plant site.

Anybody think it’s a bit ironic that the POET cellulosic ethanol plant ground breaking is being held at a casino?LOL

As fast as these projects go bankrupt others are announced. Eventually, someone will figure out how to actually do it economically.

Here anything about price paid vs what they resell stalk bales for? More money made or less lost then making cellulosic ethanol?:) I assume farmers would still get paid from the Biomass Crop Assistance Program also each year.
POET claims to be removing only one ton per acre of corn stalks from a corn field which would in most cases should leave a decent amount of residue. Anyone see & have a opinion as to whether much stalk residue still remains after baling? I'm having trouble envisioning baling something like 300,000 acres of corn stalks for ONE cellulosic ethanol plant.

Poet is reselling all the stalk bales to cattle lots like they did last year. Our tax money hard at work.

Haven't been through Blairstown for some time. Maybe I'll check it later this month. That was a 10 million gallon corn plant that never worked very well. It has been remodeled twice with little improvement.

Hey Sticky, do you know what is going on at the Fiberight plant in Blairstown. I was suppose to convert over to cellulosic ethanol.

There is a stack of square cornstalk bales at their site. I saw a pickup taking soil cores back in November, and he left stakes in the ground. With little or no snow, they are still standing. There is no construction yet. That is why earlier I call this a "slow race".

This reminds me of a "slow race". Everybody has to be moving, but nobody wants to cross the finish line first.

While I was very surprised also to not only see POET in a 50-50 joint venture, even more surprised to see them ever turn a DOE loan the was guaranteed. Then again Royal DSM is a diversified company that was suppose to have had 10 Billion in sales in 2010 so they have the deep pockets.More importantly a technology partner that will be reducing the major cost of enzymes because POET plans to make enzymes at the ethanol plants (estimated at 50 cents per gallon of ethanol)instead of shipping them in.
If you look at Jacksfans post "Biofuel business sees potential as plant nears completion" POET was suppose to be working with Novozymes who just built a new plant in Nebraska to provide the enzymes for cellulosic but apparently DSM deep pockets won out.

I'm surprised that POET would enter into a joint venture with anyone. They are a very closely help corporation and just don't share anything. They may not have had much choice since Dupont became their competitor with enzymes.
