Do you or have you ever own(ed) a horse or do you at least live nearby horses? (...and no, this is not a gas-related nor car-substitutionary question.)

Never owned a horse. We did go and see some Gypsy Vanner's last Fall. They have to be one of the most beautiful horse breeds!

- anyhow, yes we had horses, we also had riding horses besides the draft horses, and we had a welsh pony and a shetland pony. I made a small harness racing cart out of pipe, welded it in our machine shed, used old 20 inch bike wheels and had a blast with it, being pulled by the welsh pony.

I rode my horse many days to country school thru 8th grade, and even a few times to town public english speaking high school 8 miles away. That didn't last long, however, as the only place to tie up my horse was to a tree outside the principal's office window. He phoned my dad on the old crank phone and said, no more horse poop on the lawn at school. I didn't get to ride him any more to school. I did, however, ride him to town on many a Saturday night or Sunday. Farm kid life was fun - as I look back at it now.

yup, grew up with horses, and I still remember the day when we sold our last team. My dad bought a used Allis Chalmers d15 and I got to harrow the field with it - what a big deal that was.

I can proudly say Yes I do own my own horse. He is a rescue from the race track. He is my baby and I can't wait to see him tomorrow. He will be 8 years old on March 26. I volunteer at a horse rescue and that was all she wrote when he came in. My life is complete now with him.

Warm temps have actually made a winter mud season, but maybe that will make a better spring for grooming and pasture conditions.

Grew up on the 7C's ranch where learning to ride was not a subject as much as it was expected at an early age. My favorite was a paint called Marble that I loved to ride.

The wife wants to move to a smaller house, all the kids are gone. I said fine, but it has to have a two car garage, small machine shed, and a small barn. She knows what I want each of those for and that there will be a horse or two in the barn. She isn't talking much anymore about moving. :-(

With such a snowy winter, mud season is going to be bad. Unfortunately both of my girls have white hair/pink skin on their legs and are prone to Scratches...

Anyone having trouble with scratches or rain rot from the wet weather a few weeks ago? My younger horse has scratches down by her fetlocks and the scabs don't want to come off very easy :(

We are in the midst of fly season, my horses are cracking their hooves stomping all day despite fly spray and hoof conditioner. Got sugar water traps out too, about the only thing left to try are fly predators.

One of the most exciting days to have a horse... pasture opening! Nothing like seeing them enjoying running and rolling in the grass for the first time each year.
