Working on genealogy made history come alive for me. When the subject merely consisted of events and dates seemingly unrelated to me, history was pretty much a bore. However, once I began to see that events occurring long ago in far away places had significant effects on the lives of my ancestors or some of their other descendants, the data suddenly became relevant to me. Too bad I didn't take an interest in genealogy while still in school, as I probably might have gotten quite a bit more out of my history classes.

"Yes and it very large!"
Indeed. Most people only seem to be familiar with their kin out as far as their first cousins. When we realize how many 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and even higher degrees of cousins we have, not to mention how many direct ancestors we have once we consider those five or more generations back, the numbers often become staggering.

Anybody know how to add more facts to the Outline Descendant Report in recent editions of Family Tree Maker? (I "upgraded" my version 8 to the 2009 edition some time ago but haven't used it much. Today I pulled up an Outline Report and all it seemed to include are a few basic facts. I was able to add quite a few different facts to the report in version 8, but I can't seem to find where to add or delete facts in the 2009 edition.)
Thank you in advance to anyone who knows.

Great idea. I'm not sure if it's just the Labor Day weekend, or the whole week. Whichever, it could be very helpful to you!

Great job to all those who are undertaking the tremendous search for your family history! It is like digging into a meaningful family mystery that has you included! I will be moving in October and have most of my important genealogy all packed up. I will try to check in here now and then while I am still sorting and packing my other things. It is a move that is less than 5 miles, just lots of work for me.
Good luck with your researching!

Hi everybody!
I have been out for 3 months. I was in the hospital twice and a skilled nursing facility twice also. I am doing much better now, and am back on the computer again.
To the person who wondered how you can validate anything - there are legal recores that date back for centures (such as a census, land deeds, birth and death certificates, etc). There are many ways to verify things. Of course, you need to also verify it again, and again, and again. Human sources are great, but also need to be verified with a public source.
Yes, pholl, I am still here. How are you doing? I'll try to send you a note.
I have gotten back to the 1200's in my Dad's family and the 1500's in my Mom's family. I have mostly been working on my dad's family for the past couple of years. It is not easy, not is it a fast thing to do. This all takes time, and patience. Brick walls will appear, and you have to find your ways around them.
docputer - you are a crack up!
