The gas savings you get driving a compact car like the C, is not worth giving up the safety of at least a mid sized car like the Ford Fusion or C-Max.

The new Ford C-Max which will pick up where the Escape leaves off will have more room than the largest prius V and be $555 less than the V.

Fords New Escapes will be ECO motors, while the hybrid will be renamed as the C-Max(basically same SUV, just creating separate name for Hybrid line). The news has been out for a long time, yet you keep saying Ford discontined it. Another GasBuddy member said your a little "SpecialED"("R" word not taboo these days), so I will cut you some slack. Also the prius is a small car vs. Escape(SUV), apples and oranges, I would hope a small car would return higher mpg than an SUV.(hope that was simple enough for you)

Many like the sounds of a hybrid. But beware, not all hybrids are bred equally. The 2013 Chevy Malibu comes standard as a hybrid for the time being, but for a hybrid, stops short with only 25mpg city, 37mpg highway. Don't most full hybrids get better city mileage than highway? Some- the Prius, being a full hybrid has such economy. That's because a full hybrid generates power from the constant stop and go of a city. On the fueleconomy.gov website, it calls both vehicles "hybrid vehicle". Is that fair? To find the answer, let's see what else is out there: one of the Malibu's biggest competitors is the Hyundai Sonata, which according to fueleconomy.gov gets 24mpg city, 37 highway. So this Malibu "hybrid" achieves just one mpg better than the non-hybrid Sonata. You'd save $50 per year with the Malibu vs. standard Sonata according to fueleconomy.gov. What's more is that the Malibu costs over $5,000 more than the Sonata, coming in at just over $25,000. With that difference in price, you'd have to own the Malibu for 100 years to make up the difference. But what's this? The Sonata also has a hybrid version. Comparing the Malibu hybrid e-assist to the Sonata, the Sonata wins, getting 8mpg city/highway better than the Malibu. Perhaps the funniest part is that the Sonata hybrid costs just a few hundred more than the Malibu hybrid. GM- you're making a good attempt, but let's get on the train! You need to have a similar product, similar miles per gallon, at a similar price, and this just isn't cutting it. Beware of marketing on vehicles- always remember to compare mileage ratings of a select vehicle to others in its class. Unless you own your vehicles for 100 years. P.S. Better still Ford Fusion Hybrid gets 41city soon to be 47city(2013)

GM's is only an e-assist setup, lacking the high city MPG's Not much of a hybrid.

Now North America has become a money machine for the Detroit Three, which earned $4.5 billion there in the first quarter on surging U.S. sales. General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group exceeded estimates with first quarter net income that totaled $3.2 billion. The most pleasant surprise was healthy North American operating margins of 11.5 percent at Ford, 7 percent at GM and 4.5 percent at Chrysler. Even combined losses of $405 million in Europe for GM and Ford were better than analysts anticipated from a region in an intractable financial crisis.

In turn, Faurecia and Rush Group Ltd., part of the Rush Group of companies that includes one of Ford’s largest minority- and woman-owned suppliers, called Detroit Manufacturing Systems (DMS). That should brighten somebody's day. I think I will continue to support FORD!
