I keep hearing everyone talking about boycotts but it seems like this is more of a chain letter than anything else.

I don't know if these work. We all still have to drive and if we boycotted for a week, we would still have to get gas the next week and all the stations will raise rates to get back their lost revenue. It's a vicious cycle if you ask me.

I think it would but it has to be done by a certain brand or company like chevron shell etc. not just a day.

A lack of demand on one day simply means there'll be a higher demand during the next couple of days. Consumer demand of oil is practically a zero-sum game since it's a highly inelastic good.

meusikman21 still has 1 post and 120 points since joining in November 2007. He received 100 points when joining and 20 points when creating this thread. We will see if he returns.

Information that is useful to other members are current pricing information, so if you want to help other members why don't you start updating prices.

Chain letter is an apt description. The same misinformation gets churned out every time prices go up, and the same response holds true: switching suppliers will do nothing to the supply and demand curve. Only permanent reduction in use will yield permanent reduction in cost.

Any e-mail you receive that states:

1. Something that is unbelievably true
2. Swears against all logic that the falsehood is really, really true
3. That you must circulate the e-mail to other people in your contact list

Then you can bet the farm on this, it's a LIE! I can't believe people still fall for this garbage.

And meusikman21, you've been a GB member for almost 4 years and in that time, you have not posted a single gas price, read any news articles, and have made only one forum post, the one that started this thread. Can you not participate (especially by posting gas prices) more often? Your fellow GB members would greatly appreciate it.

I must be missing something obvious to most others (but not missed by some).

You joined this website, a gas price posting website, nearly four years ago. And you made your first message post by starting a topic, which gave you your first points other than the 100 points for joining. How do you even remember the password for a website that you haven't taken part in for nearly four years, and which you never contributed to in the first place?

Did it actually take four years before this "talking about boycotts" became an issue of concern? Aren't there, or haven't there been, any gas prices to post frm the Knoxville area in the past four years?

Just wonder, that's all. Just wondering.

I doubt a small scale boycott makes a difference. But as prices rose I drive as little as possible. I have an 80 mile round trip commute from work but other than that I don't put the key into the ignition if at all avoidable. I think you end up saving more by driving less, the price doesn't actually fluctuate.

meusikman 21

firstly,

Who is everyone you keep hearing? It can't be anyone from this site because if you took the time to go through some of the posts you would have noticed that this topic has come and gone many many times so why create a new one?

secondly,

Why did you become a member?

thirdly

Will you even be back to read the replies or should we put this topic on hold for another four years?

Boycotts do not work. The only thing that does work is the consumer making better decisions with his or her money to invest in a quality product at a good price.

There are nearly 5,000 threads in this category. Have you read any of them in the four years you have been a member? If you had would have your answer.

It is evident that you have not posted any price updates. The price update provide members with information that can be used to save money on fuel.
