Hi there,
I'm an American traveling to Vancouver in a few weeks. I wonder if any gas stations in the Vancouver area might take the Discover Card from the US? I ask because I can get 5% cash back by using it (and there's no foreign transaction fee).
Thanks!

When I was in Vancouver about 5 years ago didn't find a business that took Discover card. One business asked what a Discover Card was another claimed Discover Card wasn't excepted in Canada. About 10 years ago in Cancun, Mexico no place took Discover card.Unless someone has recently found out different Discover card seems only widely excepted in the USA.

Naw, I don't think so. From what I hear, they barely even want to speak to us. I think they are still mad at us for trying to take over their country two centuries ago. Yeah, we did it three or four times. They don't teach it our history. But, they whipped us all four times. We finally gave up. They cheated and used indigenous Indians to help them. That and the freezing temperatures.

Gas Buddy,
Your point well stated! I over reacted. I took it personally. I've made a few errors since joining site. The mistakes I made insighted some very rude & sarcastic responses. BTW, I post prices 4 to 5 times per week.
I appreciate your polite response, & I understand where your coming from.

Leisurelar:

"Granted, question should probably have been asked elsewhere. Instead of moving on to another topic, why do some fellow members, especially those that have been around for many years prefer to be so crass?"

I wouldn't say that the responses were crass (let alone "so crass"). First, if you're asking questions about Vancouver, chances are the Vancouver members can provide better information than someone in a distant part of the United States or Canada.

Second, by suggesting it, it's letting the member know that there's possibly a better answer than any of us could give him.

Third, suggesting that members post gas prices, especially with a minimum of regularity, is what this website is primarily about; posting gas prices for the benefit of the other members in your area. Granted, some prices get posted more frequently than others, and that some members aren't in a position to update prices as frequently as others, but by doing so, even if it's just updating an already accurate price, it extends the length of time the price can be seen by others and it shows that you have a concern for your fellow Gas Buddy members or why join in the first place? Why not simply read prices as a non-member? And, if you're going to ask questions of your "fellow" Gas Buddy members, why not show that you've helped your fellow Gas Buddy members along the way?

Just my opinion. Not crass or anything, but just my opinion as one that thinks posting gas prices on a gas price website is more important than the other activities people avail themselves to on the site.

General Gas Talk? newsman9 topic seem to fit loosely in appropriate category. Granted, question should probably have been asked elsewhere. Instead of moving on to another topic, why do some fellow members, especially those that have been around for many years prefer to be so crass? I don't understand! I assume this behavior is entertainment to them!

Not that it's any of your concern, but the reason I don't post is that I buy my gas at the same station all of the time, and because it's so popular (there's always a line) the price is always up to date (within a day). I guess I could reinforce the same price and move up the time stamp, so point taken.

And I fill up far less frequently because I buy 20 extra gallons each time and store it because of a $1/gallon discount I receive. So I pump gas twice a month.

But yes, I did mean to post this in the Vancouver forum and accidentally put it here. But instead of sniping at me, maxstar, why don't you find out why Chicago has the nation's highest retail gasoline prices even though its refineries are running some of the cheapest oil in the world?

I have to agree with the below comment.

Rather than check in this category, where it will be seen by people across the United States and Canada, why not ask your credit card company for information? Or, post your question in the Vancouver discussion category?

But, and it's just a suggestion, you might want to post gas prices a little more frequently than you have been. In more than a year's membership on Gas Buddy, you've averaged, less than one gas price post a month. If you posted just one more gas price a month, you'd double the amount of information you're providing your fellow Gas Buddy members. But that's just a suggestion; that's all.

This seems like an odd place to discover how your credit card works. Why don't you ask Discover?
And why don't you update some gas prices?
