The oven came from Sears. The gift cards came from Giant Eagle Supermarket. But, where did the gas come from?

Nothing like that going on around here that I know of -- I'd be suspicious

@Gas_Buddy --"it doesn't seem like you're getting free gas."
It looks like Penny_Pincher had made up his mind on buying an on sale oven at Sears. If he bought it with cash or credit card he would get that sale price.
Buy buying the gift card which he used to buy the oven at the SAME price he received enough rewards points to offset the price of gas 100%. That sounds like free gas to me.

Based on what Eugene_C said ("You just gave the money to the store selling the card instead of to the store selling the product you bought with the card") and what kookiwoogi said ("Kroger sells gift cards for many stores and you get 50 points for each card you purchase. With 100 points, you can get a discount of 10 cents off of each gal one one fill up of gas."), it doesn't seem like you're getting free gas. It seems like you buy a card and after buying a car you get a discount when you buy something else (in this case, when you buy gas).
So I guess, considering their follow-on post, it still doesn't make sense that you're getting free gas.

I've used the Giant Eagle gift cards for gas rewards. And yes, it's essentially free from the perspective of the purchaser. You just gave the money to the store selling the card instead of to the store selling the product you bought with the card.
Of course, the price of the product is built into the cost of the product because Sears is giving a kickback to Giant Eagle. So as a consumer you can choose to take a cut of the kickback, or not.

Yes, I have heard of this. Kroger sells gift cards for many stores and you get 50 points for each card you purchase. With 100 points, you can get a discount of 10 cents off of each gal one one fill up of gas.

Does that - "Okay, I guess I wasn't clear. They had a sale going on oven's at Sears. Giant Eagle sells gift cards for Sears, and when you buy the gift card, you qualify for their free gas rewards." - make sense?
No. If you have to buy a gift card to get gas rewards, how is it free? And, if, as Edpap says, you get a discount on gas (however much discount per gallon), that's a discount, not free gas.
So, while I understand what you said, no, it doesn't make sense.

Yes the gift cards are great. Giant Eagle sells dozens of different kinds, from Lowes to local retaurants. Each $50 gift card you buy gets you 10 cents off of a gallon of gas(20 cents when they run the special).

The oven cost the same as if I'd paid cash, we just paid for it using a gift card, and the gift card point points on the Giant Eagle card that gave gas.
Does that make sense? I thought this would be helpful information for people who use this site. I was also asking if anyone knew of any other stores that offered gift cards for other stores that included gas rewards.

Penny_Pincher: So I am guessing that after buying an oven from Sears, they gave you some kind of gifts card good at a Giant Eagle Supermarket that sells gasoline. And the amount of the gift cards covered two tanks of gas? That would not be a trick, that would be a marketing promotion. How are you going to fill your car next? By buying a stove?

You got two free tanks of gas from buying an oven at Sears? Or did you get it buy buying a gift card at a Giant Eagle Supermarket?
That doesn't sound like free gas if you're buying an oven and then buying a gift card? If you have to buy something first, hard to see how it's free.
But how is it a gift card "trick"? By saying trick are you saying it's something deceptive they're pulling on you? Or that you're pulling on Sears?
You asked "Have you ever tried this? - and do you know any other gift card sellers were this can work?"
Have I tried what? Buying an oven at Sears in order to get free gas? Or buying a gas card? And what do you mean by "do you know any other gift card sellers were this can work?" Do you mean are there other places besides Giant Eagle Supermarket where you can buy a card that qualifies for gas rewards?
Sorry, I'm not even sure what you mean by the topic name: "Have you done the Sears free-gas card trick? Know any good places? Know any what-good places? You mean do I know any good Sears where they do the free-gas gift-card trick (whatever that is)?
