I use the fuel logbook and it does accurately show the mpg from fill-up to fill-up but the running average is WAY off. Please fix it.

>"So stupid and worthless."

I'd be inclined to agree with you but I've never even clicked on the Fuel Logbook link in my life and therefore cannot comment.

OK, I just verified what was stated below by adding all the mpg averages for my car and came up with the bogus 2012 average for the year. So stupid and worthless.

I believe the "known bug" is that the fuel logbook computes an unweighted average of the mpg figures for each interval; e.g., if the first interval is 5 miles, 1 gallon, for 5 mpg, and the second 60 miles, 4 gallons, for 15 mpg, then the average is computed as (5+15)/2 = 10 mpg instead of (5+60)/(1+4) = 13 mpg. Is this what we're all talking about?

>"This has been discussed in the past, and the explanation of how the calculations are performed made sense at the time."

So how does that apply to the current problem that cheapmonkee is having?

Miles driven/gallons purchased=mpg. If the GasBuddy running mpg average differs from that figure then it makes NO SENSE. Fuelly.com is accurate. If this was my site I would fix it ASAP, (it would be a major embarrassment to me) this is not rocket science.

This has been discussed in the past, and the explanation of how the calculations are performed made sense at the time.
