Do you sit at a red light wasting your gas and time when it is 2am and no one is around?

I leave for work at 3:15am and most lights on my route to work stay green but some do turn red so I wait for them because it would be just my luck a police officer is sitting in a dark area and would give me a citation for passing the light.

1 ticket would cost a lot more than the amount of fuel burned while waiting for the light. if I burn a tank of gas a year waiting for the occasional light it is still cheaper than 1 ticket.

A red light is a red light, regardless of time of day or night.

::: whos out at 2 am :::

In Michigan that would be everyone who stayed at the bar until closing time. They already run enough red lights by accident without other people running them intentionally.

I would wait for it for a normal amount of time, then turn right and a u-turn.

The chance of me being out driving at the wee hours of the AM are very slim. After stopping at a nonsence red that won't change,I would use my right turn privilage to go,then find a decent area with plenty of traffic visibility for a move to go a different direction if need be....

Vehicles do come out of no-where when the drivers are speeding heavily or reckless controlled, for whatever reason. I trust my good judgement to stop, then after weighing the circumstances,do whatever my conscience allows. After all just who is in control of your vehicle anyway at 2 AM. If you are not, then be/stay home in bed,Simple.... real simple! LOL

It just may be the Red light that takes forever to change is purposly set that way because of a bar or bars not far away,D..drivers often don't stop for reds now do they,So green in their favor could be saving your life? ! !

Safety should always come first....don't a chance that nothing will happen...just when you least expect it, a drunk will come out of no where and hit you....always be safe behind the wheel and follow the rules of the road...if you can't ...then turn in your license...

Remember...driving is not a right...privveleges can be revoked.

I am in bed by that time of night. Nothing good happens at 2 a.m, but if I were out and ran into a red light, I would stop and not risk $145+ ticket.

A lot of them are now flashing after 12 midnite and you only have to stop look and proceed. But some are not.

No I do not because I take roads with no stop lights, if I cant avoid it, I make right turns on red-legally-if at all possible. Laws are laws and if you are not following them then you should not be driving.

I have not been out at 2 AM for a while, but I think that would be perfect time to find out if any cops are in the area - and get your ass busted.

I always obey the red lights, even at 2am. You never know what can happen. Cops aside, you could cause an accident if someone you thought wasn't there, comes out of nowhere. In my town, most lights turn to blinking yellow by 2am.

hello rookie author. welcome to gas buddy. this is a question that is too silly to answer. the answer is: just behave and follow rules, regulations and laws, or change them if they ar inappropriate.

Yes. An intersection near my house has a 12 minute red light at 2am and if it turns yellow before I get to it I feel like killing someone...but usually I just run it :)

If you ask the officer his badge # he will write the ticket better that you can possible read it too. Maybe check off all the little square blocks, HMmmm....

Possibly in my much younger years, I might have jumped a light ... but now that I'm older, I find that I like to use my money for other things than paying off ridiculous traffic tickets ...

Is there a big difference between running VS creaping through a red light after being previously stopped? I loved the line.. I would never run a red light unless I determined it to be broken. (malfuncting)How does one determine that? I mean does the drivers intelect count in those circumstances, being stopped for 20 min.by a red light, I've seen UFOs at 3 AM ,doesn't count! LOL

Yes, a red light is a red light no matter what the time of day just ask the cop that's writing the ticket.

Complain to your city and its transporation department to install intersection video vehicle detection and/or at least adaptive signal control from Econolite. Many cities are going with adaptive signal control to reduce vehicle emissions and fuel consumption by enhancing traffic flow.

wow. i would never even consider how much gas i'm wasting by sitting at a red light. i sit there because it's the law. besides, almost every light in our area has a traffic cam. i will only run a red light if it appears to be broken.

Integrity seems to vary by percentages, sincerity lasts untill your sleepy, both are compromised when you sneeze or yawn. Pretty common huh!

Back during my young days at 2AM we didn't have useless red revenue lights,a friend made a engine swap that helped him. The old 475 Edsel E..swapted into his ride, gave him the leverage to out run those bubble lights, the cost was 27-36 cents gal.Premium, naughty guy, changed Chicks monthly, never ever could find him for a helper. That old Ed.. engine ran swell till those late 50-60" Chevies were employed. Never owned gas sippers then, only one maybe, those Old... made good diy swaps also(old standby)then. LOL

Yes. Had a few surprise tickets issued over the years when I 'thought' a cop was nowhere to be found.
